The United Kingdom has a
population of about 58
million. The population of
Great Britain consists of
indigenous Britons (85%)
and natives of other
countries, mostly former
members of the British
Empire. Among the
British, the British make
up 83.6%, the Scots -
8.6%, the Welsh - 4.9%,
the Northern Irish - 2.9%.
In Great Britain the are 4 main languages:
English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish.

It is traditionally believed that the English
language has gone through four stages over
the past one and a half thousand years:
 Old English, or Anglo-Saxon
(500-1050), whose roots
belong to the dialects of the
settlers (Yuts, Saxons, English
and Frisians) who conquered
the territory of modern
England;

 Middle English (1050-1550),


which was influenced by
Norman French (after the
conquest in 1066) and
Church Latin;
