 INTRODUCTION
• Fabrics are the basic material in garment
manufacturing.
• The fabrics which are ready for marketing and
ready to cut in garment manufacturing are
called finished fabric.
• The finished fabric are used for garment
making.
• WOVEN FABRICS and KNITTED FABRICS
 WOVEN FABRICS
• Woven fabrics are suitable for its various types
of design.

 PLAIN FABRIC
• The trade names of plain cloth are given below
• Muslin
• Linen
• Alpaca
• Taffeta
• Calico
• Long cloth
• The ornamentation process makes the fabrics to
appear different eventhough made by same design.
 TWILL FABRIC
• Twill weave is the second major design after
plain weave.
• There will diagonal lines produced over the
fabric.
• The twills are classified into warp faced twill,
weft faced twill and warp and weft faced twill.
• The applications of twill weave are drill cloth,
khakhi uniforms, denim cloth, shirtings.
 SATEEN FABRIC
• A fabric in which warp threads interlace with
filling threads to produce a smooth finished
fabric.
• This fabric gives luster and produces a smooth,
even and glossy fabric surface.
• The application of sateen weave is basket ball
jackets, athletic shorts, night gowns, men’s
boxer shorts, shirts and neck ties etc.
 DYED FABRIC
• The fabric can be solid dyed, piece dyed and
yarn dyed.
• The solid dyed fabric are produced after the
grey fabric is produced and in piece dyed
particular pieces are dyed.
• In yarn dyed fabric the yarns are dyed first and
in the printed fabric once the dyeing is done
the fabric is printed.
