Cone of experience

• Is a visual model, a pictorial device that presents bands of experiences


arranged according to degree of abstraction not degree of difficulty.

• Starts from concrete experience going to abstract experience.

• Is a visual presentation of the impression that learning activities can be


placed in extensive categories based on the amount to which they
expressed the non-abstracts referents of real-life experience.
LEVEL OF THE CONE EXPERIENCE

• 1.Enactive- direct experiences/learning by doing

* contrived

* dramatized
• 2.Iconic- pictorial experiences/ learning through observation

*demonstration

*study trips

*exhibits

*educational television

*motion pictures

*recordings, radio, still pictures


• 3.Symbolic- highly abstract experience
*visual symbols
*verbal symbols
• DIRECT PURPOSEFUL EXPERIENCES -are first hand experiences which serve as the foundation of
learning. More senses are used in order to build up the knowledge.

• CONTRIVED EXPERIENCES-representative models and mock ups of reality in order to provide an


experience that as close are reality.

• DRAMATIZED EXPERIENCES-learners can participate in a reconstructed experiences that could


give them better understanding of the event.

• DEMONSTRATION EXPERIENCES-it is visualize explanation of important fact, idea, or process


through the use of pictures, drawings, film and other types of media in order to facilitate clear and
effective learning.
• STUDY TRIPS- extends the learning experience through excursions and visits

on the different places that are not available ins8de the classroom.

• EXHIBITS- most of the time exhibits experiences that is " for your eyes" only

but some exhibits includes sensory experiences which could be related to

direct purposeful experiences.

• EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY- is limited to these stages. They are not

aware that these stages are only a small portion of educational technology.
• FOR TELEVISION and MOTION PICTURES it implies values and messages through television

and films. On the other hand, still pictures, recordings, and radio are visual and auditory devices that

can be used by learner that could enhance and extend learning experience.

• VISUAL SYMBOLIC level charts, maps, graphs, and diagrams, are used for abstract representation.

• VERBAL SYMBOLIC levels do not involve visual representation or clues for their meanings.

Mostly, the things involved in this level are words, idea2, principles, formula and the likes.
