Vignette and Essay:

The
Courage of Women
How do you show courage in life? When can you
be considered courageous? Maybe some of you
asking yourself, why am I really ashamed to the
things I’ve done before because I don’t have
courage to do what I want and afraid that I might
fail. Some of you are confident to say I’ve done
impossible things because I have courage. There’s
no matter, gender, or dispositions to measure what
the things you can or you can’t do, as long as you
make it with hard work and patience you will
certainly accomplish it. In this lesson, you will find
out what’s inside of the motivational text about
courageous and you will encounter some of the
situation that happened in real life that have moral
lesson.
VIGNETTE
- is a short, well-written sketch of a person
or a descriptive scene. It does not have
which would
make it a story, but it does reveal something
about the elements like the character, mood,
or tone.
- the word vignette comes from the French
vigne meaning “little vine,” and the term
specifically arose for the small vines drawn
on the pages of printed texts
Example of Vignette
• The room was warm and stuffy, but in a
comforting way. It had the heavy but pleasing
odor of musty books and old upholstery, with
an overall air of ash and cedar from the fire
that was always burning low the stone hearth,
crackling and spitting quietly. There was a
patchwork blanket resting over the side of the
sunken but cozy couch, its squares tattered by
the love and wear of time. A wooden clock
ticked reliably on the wall.
Personal Essay
• A piece of writing which also
describes a person or character.
• “Our youth we can have time but
today, we may always find time to
grow old.”
— Bishop George Berkeley
Looking To The Eyes of a
Courageous Women
• The main idea of the first writer in her vignette is
that she shared that her mother is an example of a
courageous woman. She described her mother as
a strong, brave, hard-working, and a loving
mother. She admired her mother so much despite
of everything her mother has been through. She
hoped that someday she will be like her mother, a
woman of courage and to grow old with courage
too. While the second writer, shared that her life is
neither happy or unhappy. Her experiences have
not made her an optimist nor a pessimist, neither
an introvert or an extrovert.
• The purpose of Gloria, the second writer, in
writing a narrative essay is to share what
happened in her life in her 78 years of living. She
told her experiences when she was a child and
up until she grew old. After reading both essays, I
can say that the relationship of Carol and Gloria
is very strong. It is because Carol saw her
mother as a role model to follow. She saw her
mother as a tough and strong woman that can
handle any challenge that life gives her. While
Gloria, she showed to her children how much she
loves them. She set herself as an example for
them to follow. She protected them and did
everything she can.
For me, Carol’s description of her mother is
right. Because she saw how courageous her
mother is, that she hoped that one day, she
will be just like her mother. And she also
believed that every woman is a courageous
woman. Despite of all the challenges in life,
she believes that every woman can go
through it. Gloria is a loving and caring
mother. She will do everything in her power
to protect her family, specially her children.
She is a very hard-working mother, and also
a daughter. She did the best she can in
everything she did.
For me, a courageous woman is one of a
kind. She is brave, tough, and fearless. She
doesn’t care if something is hard. She will do
everything in her will for all the people she
loves. But for me, every woman is a
courageous woman. Everyone of them is
brave, tough, and fearless. They are the
women of courage despite all the pain and
sorrow they have been through. They still
spread happiness and love around like
confetti. They will do everything they can to
protect the ones they love, because that’s
where they get their courage from.
