What is Word Processing?

 A program that allows you to type a


letter, report, brochure, or any
documents, edit it, save it and print
it with the use of the computer.

Features of a Word Processor
 COPYING AND MOVING TEXT
 It allows you to copy text from one location to another. You can also move a
part of a text in a document to another location in a document.

 ADDING AND DELETING TEXT
 It enables you to easily correct mistakes on the monitor itself without
retyping the document. Text can be inserted easily into a document and
make room for such addition.

 SEARCH AND REPLACE
 It has a capability to search for a specified character, word or phrase
through an entire document an simultaneously replace it with a corrected
character, word or phrase anywhere it appears in a document.

 CHARACTER FORMATTING AND STYLE
 It has different options to change the font, style, size and color of your text
to enhance its appearance. With this feature, you can make a letter or any
document more presentable and readable.

 PAGE FORMATTING
 It has the ability to print the headers (at the top of the page) and footers (at the bottom
of each page of a document. The word processor can even print the page numbers
because it can automatically keep track of the page numbers you are working on.

 WORD WRAPPING
 While typing, the word processor automatically brings you to the next line of the
document even without pressing the Enter Key. Once it reaches the set margin or default
text width, it rearranges the text accordingly.

 LINE SPACING
 The word processor has the capacity to insert the number of blank lines in between the
text. This makes the document neat and clean. Line spacing can also be set before or
after typing the document.
 PRINTING
 It allows you to save and print your documents for a specified
number of times without retyping it.
 GRAPHICS
 It has the ability to insert pictures or images in your document
from a file. The word processor has also features that enables you
to create shapes, lines and borders to further improve the
appearance of a document.
Activity 1
1. Open the Microsoft Word Program
2. In a new and blank document, type a journal
describing, outlining or summarizing what you did
last week. Also include your plans or activities
for the coming weekend. Make sure that you
check errors and misspellings and edit it as
necessary.
3. Use the different features of the Word Processor.
4. Save it using file name Journal.
5. Close the document properly and quit from MS
Word.
