Spain on a Map
Spain is a country in Western Europe. It is bordered
by France. It also contains the coast of the Balearic
Sea and the Bay of Biscay, as you can see in the map
to the left. Portugal is Spain’s other neighboring
country. Spain has fifty provinces, including Galicia,
Asturias, and Cantabria.
Basic Information
Spain has a population of 46.56 million people.

Spain has been a monarchy, parliamentary system, constitutional monarchy, and a unitary
state.

The official name of Spain is the Kingdom of Spain. They speak Spanish.
Major Exports & Products
Spain produces vehicles, machines (including computers), mineral fuels, electrical
machinery, plastics, pharmaceuticals, fruits, clothing, and iron.

Spain also produces agricultural products such as sugar beets, oranges, plums, and
peaches.
Weather
There are five different climate zones in Spain, due to its large size. Visitors can generally
expect a Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, rainy
winters. The vast central plateau, or Meseta, has a more continental influenced climate
with hot, dry summers and cold winters.

The average high in July is 73 degrees Fahrenheit. The average low in January is 57
degrees Fahrenheit. Spain receives 30.21 inches of precipitation per year.

Clothing

Most traditional Spanish clothing is reserved for special events and celebrations. The most common pieces, still used today, include: the
mantilla, the peineta, and the gilet. The mantilla is a traditional Spanish veil piece that is often worn during religious celebrations such
as Spanish weddings.
