Objective:
• Making the grid smart in order to support, distributive generation
sources mostly renewable.
• Future grid which will automatically calculate the load requirement an
particular instants and will deliver power accordingly advanced with
the techniques of smart metering and smart energy management.
Introduction:

• Smart grid introduces a two-way dialogue where electricity and information can be
exchanged between the utility and its customers. It's a developing network of
communications, controls, computers, automation, new technologies and tools working
together to make the grid more efficient, more reliable, more secure and greener. This
smart grid enables newer technologies to be integrated such as wind and solar energy
production and plug-in electric vehicle charging. With our participation as informed
consumers this smart grid will replace the aging infrastructure of today's grid and utilities
can better communicate with us to help manage our electricity needs. The smart home
communicates with the grid and enables consumers to manage their electricity usage by
measuring a home's electricity consumption more frequently through a smart meter.
Utilities can provide their customer with much better information to manage their
electricity bills.
Problem statement

• Global warming and climate change have become a greater concern,

about 26.9% of green house gases are added to environment from
power sector. In Most of the developing countries in Asia and Africa
main source of electric power generation is fuel which significantly
contribute to the agents which cause global warming and climate
change.
Key points of differentiation

• An effective distributive generation systems, mostly from renewable

sources can be fully implemented with the help of smart grid.
• Provides absolute control and automation of the electrical system
• Fault detection and Self healing capability
• Reliable, secure, and greener than prevailing Grids
• Provide a ground for smart cities, Electric cars
Operational availability
• Karachi the biggest and city which is the major industrial hub of Pakistan with
population of nearly 2 crores, suffer badly due to unavailability of sufficient
electricity for industries and house holds and bad old fashioned Grids and
transmission system.
• Most of the electricity to meet the needs of the city is generated using fossil fuel
polluting the environment at a great extent leading the city world’s top four air
polluted city. Even it has a long 90 Kilometer coastline very favorable for wind
turbines and shinny skies for solar installation unfortunately is not being utilized.
• Transforming the Prevailing Grids into Smart grids will help a lot to generate
electricity from renewable sources available in the city will help to curb the
increased air pollution and Smart energy management will help power sector to
deliver sufficient electricity for the thriving industries.
