LPG LEAKAGE AND FLAME DETECTION

WITH
NOTIFICATION AND ALARM SYSTEM
Problem
Statement
The main objective of the proposed
system is to ensure the safety and
security of the consumers using
LPG the study aims to develop a
device that can detect gas, smoke,
and flame from the LPG cylinder
and can notify the owner via text
messages/Notification on app
applying a rule-based approach
Objectives
■ To ensure the safety and security of the consumers using LPG
■ To design and develop an android, iOS and Web application
for real-time monitoring LPG leakage, Fire and Smoke.
■ To monitors the variation in the limit set for the sensors and
send real-time updates to user.
■ To develop a system that assure extra safety while using LPG
Cylinder.
Introduction
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is readily available to consumers around the
world because LPG is a clean, portable, and efficient source of energy. LPG is
currently used by hundreds of millions of people in the world and there are
more than 1000 applications. LPG cylinder may leak as a liquid or a gas. If the
source of ignition and gas meets LPG can explode or burn. LPG can make the
lives of the people in the house endangered and can cause cold burns to the
skin. To ensure the safety and security of the consumers using LPG the study
aims to develop a device that can detect gas, smoke, and flame from the LPG
cylinder and can notify the owner via text messages & In-App notification
applying a rule-based approach. The system can display also a warning
message and can alarm the owner using a buzzer.

Flame Sensor
Project Concept
■ Figure 1 shows the block diagram of the proposed sensing system for LPG where the flame sensor was used to
sense the occurrence of fire.

■ When the flame sensor detects flame the LED signal will light up and send high output value. Additional
sensing modules are smoke and gas module detector if the LPG cause a gas leak the proposed system can detect
the gas value and interpret it to a digital value.

■ When the values of the sensors detected by the system are low the system enables the buzzer, displays messages
on the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), and sends warning messages to the cellphone of the owner of the house.

■ The LCD output “No Gas Leakage”, “No Flame”, “No Smoke” when the sensors detect normal values.
Displaying “Flame is Detected”, “Smoke is Detected” and “Gas is Detected” by the LCD when the sensors
detect high values. Cloud is used to send warning messages to the owner’s cellphone.
Algorithm Used - Fuzzy Logic
■ Fuzzy Logic (FL) is a method of reasoning that resembles human reasoning. The
approach of FL imitates the way of decision making in humans that involves all
intermediate possibilities between digital values YES and NO.
■ The conventional logic block that a computer can understand takes precise input
and produces a definite output as TRUE or FALSE, which is equivalent to human’s
YES or NO.
■ It can be implemented in systems with various sizes and capabilities ranging from
small micro-controllers to large, networked, workstation-based control systems.
■ It can be implemented in hardware, software, or a combination of both.
Mathematical Model
■ S= {I, O, F, Success, Failure}
 I = {i1, i2, i3} Number of Inputs
 i1 = LPG Sensor
 i2 = Flame Sensor
 i3 = Smoke Sensor
 O = {o1, o2, o3} Number of Outputs
 o1 = Turn off electricity
 o2 = Turn on Alarm
 o3 = Display Parameters on LCD
 F = {f1, f2} Functions
 f1 = Detect LPG Leakage
 f2 = Send notification to owner
 Success = System works as per requirements
 Failure = Unable to work as per requirements

Conclusion

In advance safety and security, the issues on fire and explosion incidents
were highly significant to resolve. Therefore, the LPG gas leak and flame
detector with a rule-based system for notification become important to those
who needed the device to aid the safety and security issues. This shows that
the system is reliable and efficient when using at home by the consumers.
This system can be improved by adding some advanced technologies such
as a camera, image processing, deep learning, and others to make the
detection more efficient.
