The Big Heart Day

It’s all started with the children been engaged with gardening
activities that we decided to celebrate ‘Big Heart Day’. We got
more interested as children responded and became fascinated
with the idea of Big Heart Day. A couple of weeks the children
were deeply involved with variety of heart related art
activities. They explored how they can make different shaped
of heart, coloured those, and stick on a stick or on the wall
which is now full of varieties of hearts.
When we went outdoor we practised physical activities for the
big heart day and often discussed why we need healthy heart
and watched video about how our heart work. Each meal time
we talked about the food the children were eating was that
healthy or unhealthy?
The day we celebrated “The Big Heart Day” was great, all the
children arrived wearing red. How beautiful to see exciting
children enjoying themselves just like an Eid day.
Our planned programme for the day went really well. The
picnic morning tea contained fruit platter. Then they were
involved in fun physical activities outdoor. At lunch time the
children made their own lunch with the healthy choice of
fillings into their sandwiches. Overall it was an amazing day.

What children learn?

With this project our children started to realise the importance
of taking great care of our heart. Being physically active, along
with eating healthy food is one of the most important things
we can do to keep our heart and lungs healthy. They began to
understand heart healthy life style, that continue eating right
and exercising to keep our heart going stronger longer.

Al Quran advice us healthy eating that relates to

physical and spiritual health. True believers need
healthy body and mind in order to worship
Allah.”A stronger believer is better than a weak
believer”, “Do not with your own hands throw
yourself into ruin” (2:195).
Te Whariki reflects the holistic way children learn
and grow. As they need to develop holistically, we
provide rich curriculum that enables them to grow
their capabilities across all dimensions.
