 Introduction
• Highway engineering is the part of
transportation engineering which can broadly
classified cross sectional element, sight
distance, horizontal &vertical alignment,
intersection.
• Footpath is the important part of cross
sectional element.
 Deffination of Footpath
• A footpath (also pedestrian way, walking
trail, nature trail) is a type of thorough fare
that is intended for use only by pedestrians
and not other forms of traffic such
as motorized vehicles, cycles, and horses.
• Exclusive right of way to pedestrian especially
in urban area.
• Minimum width 1.5 m can be smooth as
pavement.
• Preferable is vehicular traffic is high.
• Provide protection to pedestrian and decrease
accidents
• Footpath should be provide with a surface as
smooth as or even smoother than the
adjacent traffic lane

 Conclusion
• As present, footpath is a common part in any
urban area. But we see that this footpath is
used different types of shop, organization,
market etc. So that people can’t use it
properly which creates different types
problem of like traffic jam, accident. For this
problem our government should take some
steps to proper use of footpath. Public
awareness is also require for this problem
