LARGE SCALE ASSESSMENT
• Is a traditionally defined as the measuring of student progress
at the local, state or national level.
• Implies the ability to manage massive numbers of examinees
all being administered tests at the same time and ability to
process, analyze and report on the data, as well as the
organizational infrastructure to repeat the cycle over and over.

LARGE SCALE ASSESSMENT IN EDUCATION
• Published from 2008 to 2012 as the “IERI Monograph Series”.
• Is a joint publication the International Association for the Educational Achievement
(IEA) and Educational Testing Service (EST).
• Are test or other data collection procedures administered to large numbers of students
at the same time. These assessments often are used to measure student achievement for
educational accountability, where either the system or individuals in the system are
held responsible for student performance. Among the students taking large-scale
assessments are those with special educational needs.
THE ROLE OF LARGE SCALE ASSESSMENT

• To serve as models of effective assessment practices for teachers and students. That is, to teach how to test.

• School accountability: To gauge the success of schools and school systems in order to hold educators
accountable for student attainment of educational results.

• Student Accountability: To measure the achievement of individual students to better inform instruction for
students and/ or to ensure that students possess an agreed upon set of knowledge and skills prior to
promotion or graduation.
LARGE SCALE ASSESSMENTS FOR USE IN THE
PHILIPPINES
• The K-12 Basic Education Program led by the Department of Education in
the Philippines' elementary and secondary education standards. The
National Achievement Test (NAT), produced by the National Educational
Testing and Research Center (NETRC), currently provides nationwide
information on student’ achievement at Grade 3,6 and 10. This review
considered International Large-Scale Assessments (ILSA), such as the
Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), Trends in
Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), the Progress in International
Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), and others, for use in the Philippines.

INTERNATIONAL LARGE-SCALE
ASSESSMENT(ILSA)
 The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a triennial international
survey which aim to evaluate education systems worldwide by testing the skills and
knowledge of 15- years-old students.
Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMMS) is series of international
assessment of the mathematics and Science knowledge of students around the world. In
each of the participating educational system, a minimum of 4,500 to 5,000 students are
evaluated.
The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is an international
comparative assessment that measures student learning in reading.
REGIONAL
 The Southeast Asia primary learning metrics (SEA-PLM) is a regional assessment to assess learning outcomes
of children grade 5 aimed at informing policies and ensure all children achieve meaningful learning outcomes.
Southern and Eastern Africa Consortium for Monitoring Educational Quality (SACMEQ) is administered in
school to children in the 6th grade of formal school and is designed to assess student abilities in mathematics
and reading English.
Programme d’ Analyse des Systemes Educatifs de la CONFEMEN (PASEC) is designed to assess student
abilities in mathematics and reading.
Latin American Laboratory for Assessment of the Quality of Education (LLCE) is the network of national
system for the assessment.
NATIONAL
The National Achievement Test (NAT) is a set of examinations taken in the Philippines by students in years
6, 10, and 12.
Language Assessment for Primary Grades (LAPG)
The National Career Assessment Examination or NCAE is a test that taken by all the 3rd year or grade nine
students to all around Philippines in both private and public schools. The student take the same test at the
same time. They result helps the students decide what course they should get.
The Patient Review Instrument (PIR) is an assessment tool developed by NYS DOH to assess selected
physical, medical and cognitive characteristics of all nursing home residents, as well as to document
selected services they may receive. Person-Centered Care.
HYBRID

The Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) is an oral student assessment designed to measure the most
basic foundations skills for literacy acquisition in the early grades.
The Early Grade Math Assessment (EGMA) is an oral assessment designed to measure a student’s foundation
skills in numeracy and mathematics in early grades.
The East Asia Learning Achievement Study (EALAS) was a multi- country capacity building project,
founded by UNICEF, designed to assess the learning achievements of primary school-aged children.
Literacy Boost is literacy program designed and implement to support the development pf reading skills.
