Good Morning Students

Today we are going to learn about

• Parallelogram
• Rhombus
• Trapezium
Introduction
• Any polygon with 4 sides is called a Quadrilateral.
• Some quadrilaterals have special properties.
• Let us see some of these special quadrilaterals :
• Parallelogram
• Rhombus
• Trapezium
Parallelogram
• A quadrilateral with 2 pairs of opposite sides parallel called a
Parallelogram.
Few examples of Parallelograms
in Real life
Area and perimeter of Parallelogram
• Area of Parallelogram = base × height

• Perimeter is the sum of the length of the 4 sides.

Rhombus
• In a Parallelogram if all sides are equal its called a Rhombus.
• In a Rhombus:
• All sides are equal
• Opposite sides are parallel
• Diagonals divide the rhombus into 4 right angled triangles of equal area
• Diagonals bisect each other at right angles
Examples of Rhombus in real life
Square VS Rhombus
• Rhombus is not a Square, but a Square is a Rhombus.
• A Rhombus can be thought of as a slanted square
• If we push one side of a square, it will end up looking like a Rhombus
Area of Rhombus
• There are 2 methods to find the area of a rhombus
If diagonals are given: If base and height are given:

base
Perimeter of Rhombus
• Perimeter of a Rhombus is the sum of the 4 sides of the Rhombus
Heard of Diamond Crossing?
Trapezium
• A Parallelogram with one pair of non-parallel sides is called Trapezium.
• The distance between the parallel sides is the height of Trapezium.

.
Isosceles Trapezium

• If the non-parallel sides of a Trapezium are equal, its called Isosceles

Trapezium.

Lets Recap what we learnt
• Any polygon with 4 sides is called a Quadrilateral.
• A quadrilateral with 2 pairs of opposite sides parallel called a Parallelogram.
• Area of Parallelogram = base × height.
• In a Parallelogram if all sides are equal its called a Rhombus.
• Area of a Rhombus= ½(a×b) where a and b are the diagonals.
• A Parallelogram with one pair of non-parallel sides is called Trapezium.
• Area of a Trapezium= ½h(a+b) where a and b are parallel sides and h is
distance between the 2 parallel sides.
