PRAYER
We praise you Lord and we thank you for the opportunity to study
and prepare for a good life in the future even we are in the new
normal setting. Bless our Teachers and Principal who inspire and
guide us. Bless our families, our parents who work hard to support us.
Bless our classmates and all the people who care for us as well as the
people who are not sharing their blessings. Bless us, help us to be
more attentive, kind, patient and diligent to understand the lesson that
our teacher teach us. This we pray, in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Amen!
Learning Competencies
Recognize different types of compounds (ionic or covalent) based on their
properties such as melting point, hardness, polarity and electrical and thermal
conductivity. ( S9MT-Iib-14)

Sub Task
Recognize different types of compound. COVALENT
Learning OBJECTIVES

1. What is a Periodic Table?

Answer: A table in which the chemical elements are arranged in

order of increasing atomic number. Elements with similar
properties are arranged in the same column (called a group), and
elements with the same number of electron shells are arranged in
the same row (called the period).

2. Is it User’s friendly?

Answer: Yes. Indeed the Periodic Table is very useful in

predicting the properties of elements which we cannot see
directly such as atomic radius, ionization energy, electron
affinity and electronegativity. These properties are very
useful in understanding the chemical elements. In addition,
it is a systematic tool. It’s not just systematic tool but it is
also user friendly.

3. What are Valence Electrons? Electrons in the
outermost ring
15

➜ 4. What is the Lewis-dot structures: are diagrams that show

the bonding between atoms of a molecule, as well as the lone
pairs of electrons that may exist in a molecule.
16

➜ 5. What is Octet Rule ? States that electron

sharing proceeds until an atom has acquired
an octet of electrons ( i.e., the eight electrons
characteristic of the valence shell of a noble
gas atom).
17

6. What is Ionic Bond ? Ionic bond results from

the transfer of electrons from a metal to a non-
metal in order to obtain a full valence shell?

COVALENT BONDING
- Also called molecular bond. It is a chemical bond that involves sharing of electron pairs between
atoms.
- it commonly occurs when two non-metals bond together
