Defining EMPOWERMENT:

• It is to invest people with authority.

• Empowerement is the process of enabling people to set their own goals,

make decisions and solve problems within in their resposnisbility and authority.

• Empowerment can be defined as ‘harnessing ordinary people to do extra ordinary performance.

stakeholders.

• An earned privilege. It is not a given right.

What people think-
When thinking about empowerment in human relations terms,
try to avoid thinking of it as something that one individual does for another.

What people should think-

Think of empowerment, as the process of an individual enabling himself to
take action and control of the work and in decision making in many ways.
The charachtersitics of empowerment:
• Trust
• Mutual respect and appraisal
• Involvement in the decision making process
• Motivation
• Self evaluation

Some basic types of Empowerment:

• Personal Empowerment
• Workplace Empowerement
• Women Empowerment
Personal Empowerment
Characteristics Of An Empowered Person:

• Believe in yourself: It can be hard to believe in yourself

when you feel like you’ve been knocked down by life. However, you
can cultivate a belief in yourself that you still have contributions to
make in this world. You can still believe that the skills, talents, and
experiences that you have are valuable to the world around you
and beyond.
• Make your own decisions: Empowered people make their own
decisions and choose their own way. You always try to take full
responsibility for how your life evolves.
Personal Empowerment
Characteristics Of An Empowered Person:

• The Ability to Re-Invent, Grow and Adapt:

An empowered person realizes that at times you might have to
reinvent yourself, in order to move forward in life. So, you recognize
the seasons of life where it might be time to upgrade your skills,
knowledge, and personal development An empowered person is
not afraid to figure out what their new, re-invented life could look
like and go after it. Empowered people are just go getters and
action takers.

Employee empowerement

In conclusion I would say empowering employees is positive and ethical

thing doing as a manager in a work, but empowering could be negative

response if the employees do not know what the firm’s vision, mission

statement or even the culture of the firm on how it operates this will affect

the operations and decision they make to make the job done.

Women empowerment

What does it mean?

• Accepting and allowing women who are on the outside of the decision-making process into it.

• Creating power in individuals over their own lives, society, and in their communities.
Women's Empowerment Principles (Economic)

and nondiscrimination

and marketing practices that empower women

• Principle 7: Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender

equality
Women's Empowerment Principles (Political)

Political empowerment supports creating policies that would best support gender

equality and agency for women in both the public and private departments.
Barriers to women empowerment:

There are barrier to women empowerment which can include :

Educational attainment
• Social
• Cultural
• Religion etc.
I will briefly emphasis on educational attainment,

Education is the key to women’s empowerment. Through it, women have better access and

opportunities in the workforce, leading to increased income and less isolation at home or exclusion

from financial decisions. With an education, women are able to live their dreams by pursuing their

own goals and values

• Education is considered as a milestone for women empowerment because

it also enables them to respond to the challenges and change their lives.

• Women have so much unexplored potential which has never been tapped.

• Without an education, these girls will often marry and have children at a

young age, work in unpaid or low paying positions, and rely on their

husbands or families for economic support.

• However, there are still many barriers preventing girls and women to pursue

and complete their education, limiting women’s empowerment. These can

include the cost of school or college, difficulty getting to school due to

distance or lack of transportation, being forced to work and provide for their

families, being forced to marry and have children, or conflict in their

hometown or country.
In Africa, precisely Nigeria, there are different examples and ways that encourages the
concept of empowering women. Such example is the ''Women For Women International''
known as''WIWF''.Basically, the role of a woman in society places her in a unique position
to be a peace buider, who makes sacrifices to provide stability for herself, her family and
her community. This is why Women for Women International provides a platform where
women attend a 12-month long training program help empower themselves, with
emphasis on health and wellbeing, economic and social development, decision making
and building support networks. WIWF programs are focused on human development in a
bid to improve societies and communities where communal peace and trust have been
shattered by conflicts and war. The emphasis on women strongly suggests the importance
of creating peace by revitalizing and creating a means of livelihood for families.
Youth Empowerment:

Youth empowerment is one of the key to global progress. It is a process of encouraging youthby all
means, towards making a course for them in terms of sustainability and adaptability as per situations. It
aims at improving the quality of life youths are living and bring empowerment by giving them access to
the resources which can help them build confidence and work in the direction of attaining growth and
transfromation. Youth empowerment programs are basically run by NGOs and Government Organisations.
Examples of Youth empowerment on the global front include Graduate Internship Scheme(GIS),Africa,
Youth Entrepreneur Support Program (YES-P), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Nigeria, etc.
Empowerment in business:

In the world of business and management, Empowerment is a way of giving employees greater authority
and responsibility to take care of the customers and provide employees with the means for making
influential decisions. Examples of employee empowerment are Management Support, Focus On The
Customer, Front Line Decision Making, Ongoing Training, Access to Data, Employees having Mentors,
etc
Conclusion

We can conclude that definitely empowerment is a

positive element in our lives as well as in organizations

and in societies as a whole. Provided that limits are

clearly defined when empowered. However, the

empower process is only successful when there is room

for feedback.
