Their morning breakfast included milk and Indian bread (roti). Their lunch comprised of dal, rice, vegetable (sabji) and Indian bread. Their dinner was usually khichadi, kadi (a different type of dal). Some of their favourite junk items which they consumed were dhokla and handva and bhel.
What forms of exercise would you do?
In the morning, their daily routine started from 7 am. They walk almost 3 km to and fro from school. This walking of 3 kms where a part of our exercise. The other games which they played were lagori, kho kho, cricket and hide and go seek. All these games were their daily form of exercise. when you were young what kinds of junk food would you all eat? My grandmother used to have paani puri, which is an Indian delicacy consisting of fried puff pastry balls filled with spice mashed potato, spiced chilled water and tamarind juice. Another dish she used to love having was ragda pattice, which is made of a light stew of rehydrated dried white peas cooked with a variety of spices and the pattice are made of mashed potatoes cakes. One the most popular junk food items, according to my grandmother, is sev puri, which is essentially made of crispy papdi, loaded with dice potatoes, chickpeas, onions and various types of chutneys and then garnished with sev. The sev are seasoned with various spices and flavours, such as raw mango, ginger, anise, cumin, cloves and chaat masala Grandfather: Feenya Ladoo: a sweet dish made out of sugar, wheat milk and some spices like cardamom. Gud Papdi: a famous sweet dish from Gujrat made using sugar, wheat and jaggery. Bhel puri: An Indian dish of puffed rice, onions, spices, and hot chutney. What is your opinion on the modern food items we eat now days? The food is very tasty but it’s not very healthy and we also took some time to adjust to their taste . What kinds of games would you play when you were young? • Grandmother: Chhuppa chuppi (hide and seek), pakda pakdi (catch catch, a game similar to tag), snakes and ladders at home and antakshari while travelling (The game of the ending letter is a spoken parlor game played in India and Pakistan. Each contestant sings the first verse of a song (often Classical Hindustani or Bollywood songs) that begins with the Hindustani consonant on which the previous contestant's song selection ended.) Kho Kho (an Indian game of tag played with two teams of twelve people). • Grandfather: playing with marbles, flying kites and spinning tops. PARENTS • Q. What was my favorite food? • Ans. my favorite food during my youth were fruits. I loved fruits, especially water fruits. My diet included milk, roti (which a form of indian bread), sabji and a variety of juices. My so called cheat meals were pani puri, sev puri and samsosas. • Q. What were the forms of exercises you did? • Ans. i would start my exercises at 5.30 sharp in the morning. i would practice 2 hours of yoga until 7.30 and then go for walk with my friends. During college, i used to walk almost 5 kms to and fro college which would serve as a good exercise. In school we had a period where we would do some basic arm movement and leg strengthening training . Q. What games did you play when you were young? in my school, i used to play hop scotch during the breaks. Playing antakshari (a musical game) on sleepovers and travelling had become like a tradition. Hide and seek, fugdi, running races and catch hook ( a game similair to tag) were some of the common ones i played with my building friends. Q. What is my opinion on the modern food? according to me, liking the modern food needs a developed taste. Not everyone can adjust to the new variety of food which has been going on. Fruits like dragon fruit, avocado, wild watermelon etc. are something new itself but are very healthy and needed for the development of the body however, it doesnt always suit me. The junk food is definitely tempting and unique. My most favorite modern food has been the avocado. • Q. What were your favorite activities as a kid? • Ans. When I was young I used to play pakdam pakdai (a game where one person runs behind all others to catch them) we did not have mobile phones so we used to play games like hid and seek and race . There were many kids so we played football and badminton too.
