ANALYZING THE
SOIL
 SOIL ANALYSIS 
 We used a trowel to get a sample of the soil. 

 The depth was 15 in.

 The texture was mostly gritty.

 We did a soil percolation test. It took the water 32 seconds to soak in

the ground.

 The soil pH was 5.

PROBLEMS
PRIMARY PROBLEM/SOIL
 From the results of the experiment,
we produced the conclusion that
our soil was gritty and dry making
the chances of anything living
survival chance low to our
ecosystem.
SECONDARY

 After concluding that the soil was
hurting our environment and that
the lack of sunlight caused the
weeds to grow in that area, leading
to the chance of the problem being
the weeds.

• Add compost and/or fertilization every year
• Add solar panels to the courtyard

Our Thought Process:
Since the dry, gritty soil can pose a threat to
the ecosystem, we can make it better by
adding fertilizer and/or compost to the soil.
 We could use compost from the school to
help fertilize the courtyard.
Since the sunlight is only in certain areas, it could potentially harm the
different weeds and plants because only certain areas are getting sunlight.
 We think solar panels would be an effective solution because solar
panels create energy for the plants without water nor a negative impact on
the ecosystem.
By installing solar panels, we wouldn't just be benefiting our needs, it would
be benefiting the entire planet. Solar panels decrease greenhouse gases and
pollution.
HOW THIS WOULD IMPROVE OUR

 With the improved health of the  If we added solar panels to our

soil, plants will get more nutrients environment, the plants would get
and stability, and will last longer. more energy faster and will not
need as much water.

how we can help our environment
become healthy and the best it can be.
