BIOME

• A biome community of plants and animals that have

common characteristics for the environment they exist
in.

• They can be found over a range of continents.

• Biomes are distinct biological communities that have

formed in response to a shared physical climate.

There are 7 major biomes in the world :

1. TUNDRA
2. CONIFEROUS FORESTS
3. DECIDUOUS FORESTS
4. DESERT
5. GRASSLAND
6. MOUNTAINS
7. RAINFORESTS
TUNDRA

• Tundra is a type of biome where the tree growth is

hindered by low temperatures and short growing
seasons.

• This is the coldest of all the biomes.

• Therefore, species diversity is limited as a result.

• Its name comes from the Finnish word tunturi,

meaning treeless plain.

• It receives less rainfall than most deserts, although it

remains wet because the cold temperatures delay
water from being evaporated.
• Plants, such as mosses and lichens, adapt to these
frigid conditions by having a shorter growing season. • Artic tundra • Alpine tundra

• This biome includes: Arctic and Alpine tundra
