What is a Project
A project is a temporary
endeavor undertaken to
create a unique product,
service or an output.

A collection of linked activities, carried
out in an organized manner, with a
clearly defined START POINT and END
POINT to achieve some specific results
desired to satisfy the needs of the
organization at the current time.
Project...
 The Project may be finite but not the
result.
 A project to build a monument would
be of fixed duration whereas the result
that is the monument, may be for an
indefinite period of time.

What are Operations...
Operations are the business activities
that a firm engages in to convert
materials into finished products or
services, sell them to customers, and
earn a profit.
Project Versus Operations:

 A dynamic process that utilizes the


appropriate resources of the organization in
a controlled and structured manner, to
achieve some clearly defined objectives
identified as needs.
 It is always conducted within a defined set
of constraints

1.Initiating Process Group: Those processes performed to define


a new project or a new phase of an existing project by obtaining
authorization to start the project or phase.

2.Planning Process Group: Those processes required to establish


the scope of the project, refine the objectives, and define the course
of action required to attain the objectives that the project was
undertaken to achieve.

3.Executing Process Group: Those processes performed to complete


the work defined in the project management plan to satisfy the project
specifications.

4.Monitoring & Controlling Process Group: Those processes


required to track, review, and regulate the progress and performance of
the project; identify any areas in which changes to the plan are
required; and initiate the corresponding changes.
