Especially during this pandemic, Realyn and his eldest son’s earnings from various informal FAMILY works and other income opportunities are not enough to SITUATION sustain what their family needs like food and other necessities at home.
Her 18 year-old son stopped going to school and is
the one helping her earn for the family as her 59 year- old husband is suffering from a bad eyesight problem which forced him to stay at home and which prevented him from getting a job. With Realyn’s low educational attainment, she was not able to find a permanent job, so as her eldest son who was just supposed to be in Grade 10 by now. Realyn is able and capable of working and she REALYN’S shows interest and potential in microenterprise as she FAMILY used to own a small store in the past for many years, SITUATION that was not only able to persist due to the deficit caused by irresponsible loaners and lack of capital. She lacks some skills and knowledge since she was not able to continue studying, but she is displaying willingness to rise up from their situation. She continues to work hard currently, buying and reselling charcoal to gain money to spend for their family’s needs. Realyn is persevering and is being resourceful in dealing with their struggles as she has also made a small vegetable garden in their yard where they can get little vegetables from time to time. What Realyn is portraying can tell that she has a great potential for change and can guide her family’s motivation. The family’s financial struggles have resulted to their lack of food and nutrition, also lack of money to buy other essential things like for hygiene. However, the REALYN’S family’s problem is reversible and can be resolved with FAMILY the provision of appropriate assistance, services and SITUATION through the use of resources available in the community, which can help them have a stable means of livelihood that can adequately provide for the family and which could allow the eldest son to get back to school.
