ASSESSMENT STATEMENT Saludo, AS 2-3

Realyn’s family with three teenage children have
been experiencing difficulties in acquiring their basic
REALYN’S
necessities. Especially during this pandemic, Realyn
and his eldest son’s earnings from various informal
FAMILY
works and other income opportunities are not enough to SITUATION
sustain what their family needs like food and other
necessities at home.

Her 18 year-old son stopped going to school and is

the one helping her earn for the family as her 59 year-
old husband is suffering from a bad eyesight problem
which forced him to stay at home and which prevented
him from getting a job. With Realyn’s low educational
attainment, she was not able to find a permanent job, so
as her eldest son who was just supposed to be in Grade
10 by now.
Realyn is able and capable of working and she REALYN’S
shows interest and potential in microenterprise as she FAMILY
used to own a small store in the past for many years, SITUATION
that was not only able to persist due to the deficit
caused by irresponsible loaners and lack of capital. She
lacks some skills and knowledge since she was not able
to continue studying, but she is displaying willingness to
rise up from their situation. She continues to work hard
currently, buying and reselling charcoal to gain money
to spend for their family’s needs. Realyn is persevering
and is being resourceful in dealing with their struggles
as she has also made a small vegetable garden in their
yard where they can get little vegetables from time to
time. What Realyn is portraying can tell that she has a
great potential for change and can guide her family’s
motivation.
The family’s financial struggles have resulted to
their lack of food and nutrition, also lack of money to
buy other essential things like for hygiene. However, the REALYN’S
family’s problem is reversible and can be resolved with FAMILY
the provision of appropriate assistance, services and SITUATION
through the use of resources available in the
community, which can help them have a stable means
of livelihood that can adequately provide for the family
and which could allow the eldest son to get back to
school.

If the family’s problem would not be addressed as

soon as possible, the family’s struggle with acquiring
their basic necessities might continue in the long run
and might cause the family to suffer malnutrition. The
family’s current situation might even worsen since
during this pandemic finding work opportunities is
difficult and the needs are increasing and goods and
fees are also getting pricier.
