Information & Clauses from Voyage Instruction

• Cargo to be load, Amount of cargo

• Load/Discharge Port Density & Limitations
• Cargo Hold Cleaning
• Stevedore Damage
• Statement of Facts
• Dead-freight Claim
• Stowage Plan & Breakup of the Calculation
Deadweight Calculation

Calculation of Maximum cargo amount that can load.

Based on Load Line Zone throughout the voyage, draft

limit & Density of water, S.F of cargo, Liquid onboard,

Deflection of Ship.
Vessel has to load maximum within charter party

amount due considering the vessel safety.

Deadweight Calculation
 Determine the maximum draft  Find out the Displacement for
and density loadable SW draft
 Find out maximum draft at  Deduct all known weight from
seawater density 1.025. (Dock Displacement and cargo quantity
Water Allowance = FWA*(1.025- will be obtained
Dock Water Density)/25
Deadweight Calculation

 After obtained the Acceptable Dead Weight Cargo, Acceptable Volume

Cargo need to check for higher stowage factor cargo such as Coal,
Grain.
Acceptable Volume Cargo = Total Holds Volume / S.F of Cargo
 Compared the Acceptable Deadweight cargo and Acceptable Volume
Cargo.
 Actual Acceptable Cargo should be the lesser one.
Cargo Information, Cargo Care and IMSBC Code

 Assessment of acceptability, of consignments for safe shipment (by

checking IMSBC Certificate - Statement of Compliance for The

Carriage of Solid Bulk Cargoes)
 Before loading bulk cargo, shipper shall provide cargo information to

vessel with proper form (Shipper’s Declaration)

 Shipper shall provide information for safe handling/carriage of cargo.
IMSBC Code (Bulk Cargo Groups & Trimming Procedure)

 Group A consists of cargoes which may liquefy if shipped at moisture

content in excess of their transportable moisture limit.
 Group B consists of cargoes which possess a chemical hazard which
could give rise to a dangerous situation on a ship.
 Group C consists of cargoes which are neither liable to liquefy (Group
A) nor to possess chemical hazards (Group B).
IMSBC Code (Bulk Cargo Groups & Trimming Procedure)
Trimming Requirement
Cohesive Bulk Cargo – shall be trimmed reasonable level, shall be spread
as widely as practicable to the boundary of cargo space.
Non-Cohesive Bulk Cargo (Angle of Repose ≤ 30°) – Trimmed as per
Grain Code.
Non-Cohesive Bulk Cargo (Angle of Repose > 30° & ≤ 35°) - Vertical
distance between highest and lowest of cargo surface shall not exceed
B/10 with maximum allowable 1.5m or loading is carried out using
trimming equipment approved by competent authority.
Non-Cohesive Bulk Cargo (Angle of Repose > 35°) - Vertical distance
between highest and lowest of cargo surface shall not exceed B/10 with
maximum allowable 2.0m or loading is carried out using trimming
equipment approved by competent authority.
IMSBC Code (Individual Schedules of Solid Bulk Cargo)

 Alphabetically arrangement of Bulk Cargo Shipping Name (BCSN) in

Appendix 1.
 Cargo Characteristic, Hazard, Cleaning Requirement, Precautions are

provided for each cargo.

“Let see for Coal cargo”

IMSBC Code (Liquefy Cargo)

 Cargo which may liquefy means the cargoes which contain a certain

proportion of fine particles and a certain amount of moisture. They

may liquefy if shipped with moisture content in excess of their
transportable moisture limit.
 Transportable Moisture Limit (TML) of a cargo which may
liquefy means the maximum moisture content of the cargo which is
considered safe for carriage in ships other than special constructed
ship. It is determined by the test procedures, approved by a competent
authority, such as those specified in paragraph 1 of appendix 2.
IMSBC Code (Liquefy Cargo)

 TML testing Certificate and Moisture Content Test Certificate should

be accompanied with Shipper’s Cargo Declaration Form.

 TML Testing should be conducted within 6 months to the date of

loading.
 Moisture Content test should be conducted as near as practicable to

the date of loading. Interval between sampling/testing and loading

shall never be more than 7 days.
IMSBC Code (Liquefy Cargo)
Liquefaction does not occur
1. the cargo contain very small particles.
2. The cargo consist of large particles or lumps.
3. The cargo contain high percentage of air and low moisture content.

General Provision for Liquefy Cargo

4. Accept cargo to load only when moisture content less than TML.
5. Cargo containing liquid should not stowed in same or adjacent hold.
6. Adequate measure to prevent liquid entering to the hold.
7. Do not use water to cool down the cargo, when necessary use spray
form.
IMSBC Code (Liquefy Cargo)
Determining Possibility of Liquefaction
 Half fill a cylindrical can or similar container (0.5 to 1 ltr capacity) with a

sample of the material.

 Take the can in one hand and bring it down sharply to strike a hard surface

from a height of about 0.2m

 Repeat the procedure 25 times at one or two second intervals.

 Examine the surface for free moisture or fluid condition.

 If free moisture of fluid condition appears, arrangement should be made to

have additional laboratory tests.

Refuse to Load Cargo

 Refuse to load cargo if the moisture content of the

cargo is higher than TML.
 Decision to load or refuse to load is vessel option, not
P&I surveyor.
 Prepare cargo test report for rejected cargo/cargo
barge. (Sample Cargo Reject Report)

Hold Cleaning/Preparation/Cleaning water Discharge and GRB

 Holds should be ready for intended cargo to load.

 Hold cleaning equipment and cleaning chemical should be enough

for the voyage and in good condition.

 Basically holds should be free of previous cargo

residue/debris/odour, free of loose rust/paint scale/flake.

 After discharge of dirty cargoes such as coal/pet coke, special

measures may be required such as use of bio-degradable

detergent/chemicals to remove cargo stains
 Cleaning Progress should be start from Top to Down.

Cargo Residue, Cleaning Water Discharge and GRB

Cargo residues means the remnants of any cargo which are

not covered by other Annexes and remain on the deck or in
holds following loading or unloading, including loading and
unloading excess or spillage, whether in wet or dry condition
or entrained in wash water but does not include cargo dust
remaining on the deck after sweeping or dust on external
surfaces of the ship.
