Solar (PV) Tree Design Challenge

Model # DS100
Objective : Design solar tree with solar PV panels giving maximum power output (1500 W) Max. Power (Pmax) 100W +/-3%
Location : Hyderabad MU Open Circuit voltage (Voc) 21 V
Solar panel specs : L x B 1.04 x 0.67 m, 100 W, 4-5 kg Short circuit current (Isc) 6.05A
Voltage @ Max. Power 18V
# of panels to be used : 15 nos … Max power output 1500W (15*100 W) Current @ Max. Power 5.6A
Requirements Max Voltage System DC 1000 V
- Should look like a tree with leaves & aesthetically pleasing Normal op. Temperature 45.5 C
- Maximum power output , Width & height constraints due to structural design Temperature co-efficiency -1.036 W/C
Constraints Amaravati city (AP) solar tree
- Fixed arrangement.. No sun tracking during day and around the year Courtesy: Internet
- Withstand weight & wind loads
- Structure to be made with low cost material & joining processes
Design report submission with following
- Sketch with layout of all solar panels with tree branches including orientation with
respect to sun & ground.. Preferable 3D CAD drawing
- Power output calculation (including power loss due to shade of adjacent Solar panels
due to orientation, sun movement thro’ out the year)
Who can participate
- Any MU student (s)/or faculty … current or alumni, faculty or joint (student +faculty)
Design report to be Submitted by July 12th to Onedrive link.
