LET US PRAY

Our loving and generous God, we praise and thank you

for all the bountiful blessings you are constantly giving
us.Thank you for the mindLet that helps us understand and
a heart that enables us to love.Thank you for this chance
to continue learning amidst the pandemic that has
caused a lot of changes in our lives.
All this we pray in your mighty name.

MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCIES

1. _____ is also called the “arithmetic average”

2. _____ is the most frequent score
3. _____ is the “ middle score” when data are arranged in an order
4. _____ if the data has 2 mode
5. _____ What must be the value of “x” in ; 13,17,20,21, x so that the mean is 18?

13 + 17 +20 + 21 + x = 18
5
71 + x = 18
5
71 + x = 90
x = 90-71 6. x = 20 7. x = 18 or 17
x = 19

6. _____ What must be the value of “x” in ; 13,17, 18, x , 23, 27 so that the median is 19?

7. _____ What must be the value of “x” in ; 13,17, 18, x , 18, 17 so that the median is
UNIMODAL?
Consider the scores of 2 sets of students:

SET A : 10, 11, 9, 12, 11,10,12, 11,11,9,10,12,9,11,10,12

SET B : 8, 10, 11, 9, 11,12, 10, 15, 8, 9,10,13,14,10, 9,11

Mean of set A ; 170/16 = 10.63

Mean of set B ; 170/16 = 10.63

MEASURES OF VARIABILITY - or the methods of dispersion is the spread or scatter

of the individual values around the central point.
dispersion – scatter in a series of values about the average
3 Measures of VARIABILITY:
1. Range
2. Variance
3. Standard Deviation

RANGE :
- the difference between the highest and the lowest values
in the given set of data.
- measure that requires simplest computation
- HIGHEST - LOWEST

Find the RANGE of the following:

1. 3,8,16,12,4,5,7,15 R = 13

2. 5, 4, -3, 9, -5, 13, -1 R = 13 - -5 = 18

R = 11.1
3. 8.5, 6.2, 12, 4.2, 14, 9.1, 15.3
4.
RANGE:
Upper boundary (uppermost class interval)
- Lower boundary (lowermost class interval)
R = 65.5 - 40.5 = 25

5. R = 186.5 - 158.5 = 28

R = 149.5 - -.5 = 150

6.
STANDARD DEVIATION:
- measure of the variation of a set of data in terms of the amounts by which
the individual values differ from their mean.
- It is considered the most stable measure of spread.
- It is affected by the value of each data.

Standard Deviation of UNGROUPED data

To get the Standard Deviation of UNGROUPED data, we follow these steps:

Example:
Calculate the standard deviation of the given scores in an Algebra Quiz ;
18, 20, 22, 15, 16, 12, 17, 21, 10, 19

1. Calculate the mean: Mean = 18 +20 + 22 + 15 + 16 + 12 +17 +21 +10 +19

VARIANCE = ( standard deviation )2

If the standard deviation of the given data is 9.8, what is the variance ?

s2= (9.8)2 = 96.04

  STANDARD DEVIATION =

If the Variance of the given data is 22.09, what is the standard deviation?
