• Cashew apple fruit juice is having High Medicinal Value.


• Cashew apple fruit juice extraction machine development will give value
addition to the fruit.
• Design of this machine involves Suitable Material selection, Optimized
size, Required size & shape, Required Capacity of 10kg per batch,
Working principle which we are going to adopt.
• We are Designing the machine which will yield higher amount of juice
and adopt suitable working principle for Crushing of this fruit.

Outcomes of literature review
The scientific community affirms these benefits:

•A 2013 study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition
found that men who drank cashew apple juice during high-intensity exercise had
enhanced fat utilization. The juice, then, may enhance athletic performance. [1]
•A 1993 study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry reveals that cashew apple
juice exhibits moderate antitumor activity against breast cancer and cervical cancer cells.

•Another 1993 study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found
that compounds in cashew apple have anti-microbial and anti-bacterial qualities when
tested against several strains of microorganisms. [3]
•A 2012 study published in Food and Bioprocess Technology indicates that fermented
cashew apple juice may be an inexpensive source of beneficial probiotics. [4]
•A 2008 study published in Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology explains how cashew
apples can be used as an ingredient in ethanol biofuel. [5]

Scope and Motivation
• Cashew apple (Anacardium Occidentale L) a tropical fruit of potential
economic importance is rich in sugars, tannins, minerals, pigments,
antioxidants and vitamins (Vitamin C content is three to six times more than an
orange and twelve times more than pineapple), making it a functional food.
• In addition to vitamin C, it contains thiamine, niacin, riboflavin and precursors
of vitamin A and is also found to be good source of minerals, such as copper,
zinc, sodium, potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorous and magnesium.
• The juice recovery of fruit is in the range of 65% to 80% depending upon
maturity, variety and process of extraction.
• Due to the seasonal nature of production (harvested only during the four-
month period - Feb to May).

Fabrication requirements
• In Bio Fuel Plant , SIT Tumakuru we have oil
expeller and on the basis of previous study of mini
oil expeller we are using as a reference for design
purpose.
• Major Fabrications will be done in External
Workshops.
• Thread cutting in screw expeller will be done in
machine shop with the help of machine available.
