INTRODUCTION
Coconuts are a very popular fruit worldwide. They have a variety of uses,
as well as health and nutritional benefits. The uses of coconuts range
from cooking and nutrition to skin health, cancer prevention, beauty
products, and fuel. Scraping coconut is a laborious and time-consuming
process. The manual process requires the operator to both rotate and
apply pressure to scrape out the flesh of the coconut. The commercialised
coconut scraping machines that are available are not fully automated and
still involve manual effort. The semi-automated process requires the
operator to hold the coconut half-shell against a rotary blade usually
powered by an electric motor. In both methods, the operator is presented
with different risks of injury. This paper describes how an automated
coconut scraping machine has been developed to solve the well-known
challenges regarding grating coconuts. The design proposed in this study
eliminates virtually all hazards related to coconut scrapers. It is a fully-
automated machine that reduces both risk and effort on the part of the
operator. The system incorporates an adjustable blade that allows
movement along two axes. A clamping mechanism that moves in the
third direction allows a three-dimensional movement. The mounting of
the coconut half shell in the clamp takes no more than fifteen seconds.
Upon mounting, at the push of a start button, the scraping of the coconut
is completely automatic. Details of the design and development of the
working model constitute the main contribution of this paper.

METHODOLOGY

The approach leading to the concept of the coconut scraping machine described
in this paper can be summarised as a five-step process: problem definition and
research objective;literature review; development of the scraper mechanism;
development of the clamp mechanism; description of the electrical and control
systems; detailed design. The problem and objective have been defined in the
first two sections of the paper as a preliminary step of the design process. A
literature review was conducted to understand how the coconut is structured.
Existing concepts of coconut machines have been analysed to identify features
that could be incorporated in the proposed model. The scraper mechanism was
developed to make provision for movement along at least two axes. The
selection of material was done based on existing designs and the coconut kernel
requirement. The clamp mechanism was
developed to hold the coconut firmly in place and ensure that the time taken to
mount the coconut is relatively short. The brief overview of the electrical and
control circuits was based on the working of the main sub-systems of the model
proposed in this paper.

GAP ANALYSIS

1. The manual coconut scrapers are very slow and also take a lot of time and
effort to scrape the coconut flesh.

2. Also, the automatic coconut scrapers available in the market are not safe for
the users hand as there is a high chance of slipping of hand while applying
pressure to the shell while scrapping.

3. Those with the holding setups are not very sturdy and hence don't have a long
life.

Project Implementation

•Interference between parts must also be checked to ensure that there are no
unresolved and imbalanced forces between them.
•All parts of the device must be built according to the dimensions specified after the
interference testing so that they mate without excess wear and tear.
•The holder once fabricated, must be attached to the shaft. This holder shall hold
the coconut in place while scraping.
•The holder must be attached via mounts designed for it.
•This entire attachment is then fixed onto a mainframe.
•The motor is running on a single phase 220V AC.
•The shaft pushes the coconut towards the blade, and then the motor moves it,
helping to scrape the coconut efficiently.
•The clamper has three cylindrical bolts to clamp the coconut shell .

PROGRESS AFTER REVIEW PRESENTATION

Since, the last project review we have done the following

activities:
1. Selected the desired materials for the project
2. Short listed particular priorities of materials over the others.
3. Sorted the budget again according to the recent trends
4. the material specifications for ensuring better performance of
project.
5. Literature review of the given documents carefully and
thoroughly again.
6. Decided the overall layout of process and henceforth modified
the process.
