The approach leading to the concept of the coconut scraping machine described
in this paper can be summarised as a five-step process: problem definition and
research objective;literature review; development of the scraper mechanism;
development of the clamp mechanism; description of the electrical and control
systems; detailed design. The problem and objective have been defined in the
first two sections of the paper as a preliminary step of the design process. A
literature review was conducted to understand how the coconut is structured.
Existing concepts of coconut machines have been analysed to identify features
that could be incorporated in the proposed model. The scraper mechanism was
developed to make provision for movement along at least two axes. The
selection of material was done based on existing designs and the coconut kernel
requirement. The clamp mechanism was
developed to hold the coconut firmly in place and ensure that the time taken to
mount the coconut is relatively short. The brief overview of the electrical and
control circuits was based on the working of the main sub-systems of the model
proposed in this paper.
1. The manual coconut scrapers are very slow and also take a lot of time and
effort to scrape the coconut flesh.
2. Also, the automatic coconut scrapers available in the market are not safe for
the users hand as there is a high chance of slipping of hand while applying
pressure to the shell while scrapping.
3. Those with the holding setups are not very sturdy and hence don't have a long
life.
•Interference between parts must also be checked to ensure that there are no
unresolved and imbalanced forces between them.
•All parts of the device must be built according to the dimensions specified after the
interference testing so that they mate without excess wear and tear.
•The holder once fabricated, must be attached to the shaft. This holder shall hold
the coconut in place while scraping.
•The holder must be attached via mounts designed for it.
•This entire attachment is then fixed onto a mainframe.
•The motor is running on a single phase 220V AC.
•The shaft pushes the coconut towards the blade, and then the motor moves it,
helping to scrape the coconut efficiently.
•The clamper has three cylindrical bolts to clamp the coconut shell .
