I Am Responsible

“Good morning Grade 2. This is your

new classmate, Vera,” Miss Vergel said.
Everybody looked at Vera. She was
physically challenged and had crutches
to assist her in standing and walking.

Some pupils started to whisper to one

another. Vera started talking to her
classmates.
“Good morning, classmates. Sorry I am late as I did
not find our classroom right away.”

Vera told her classmates that she and her family

met a car accident. This is the reason why she
became physically challenged. Her left foot was
badly injured, making it difficult for her to walk.
“However,” she explained, “I can still do many
things by myself. I prepare my things for school. I
dress up by myself and fix my personal belongings.
I make sure that my beddings are neatly folded
after sleeping. I can eat by myself and I do not ask
our house helper to serve food for me.”
Nina has been listening intently to Vera. She has been
thinking that she is truly blessed because she has no
physical injury.

She kept thinking, “It is good that I do things on my

own and take care of myself. I will fix my own things,
prepare my uniform, dress up by myself, and carry my
own things. I will not depend on our house keeper.
More than ever, I will be thankful for all the things
which I can do by myself and all the blessings That
are given to me. I wish my classmates would do the
same.”
As a grade 2 pupil, you may seem small, but you can
be great. You can do a lot of things which can help
your parents and siblings. You can make work at home
easy too.

At home, always try to do things by yourself. You can

fix you own bed uopon waking up, prepare your things
for school, take a bath, eat and drink without anyonw
attending to you.
You can take care of yourself. You can slowly
become independent by not asking help from
others if it is not needed.
