 The sociological imagination

 The term "sociological imagination " was coined

by American sociologist C Wrigt mills in 1959.
 C wrigt mills defined sociological imagination as"
the awareness of the relationship between
personal experience and the wider society".

 People and their behavior are influence by
different social forces which include social
relationships with friends, relatives and other
people in education,work, economic and
religion institutions.

 C wrigt mills reffered to the ability to see the
impact of social forces on individual especially
on their private lives as sociological
imagination.

 He propose a concept "power elite " according
to him this can be defined as a small size group
of people who controls a disproportionate
amount of power, privileges, wealth and most
important the access to decision makers in a
political system

 The Basic characteristics of this theory are the
power is concentrated , th elite are unified,

the best known power elite theoriests the
governing elite in the united states downs its
members for three areas.
 (1) the highest political leaders including
president and handful of key cabinet members
and close advisers
 .(2) the major corporate owners and directors
 .(3) high ranking military officers.

repression inheritance from where does it's
strength come? basically it comes from highest
position in the political and business hierarchy
and from shared values and beliefs

 Mills is regarded as the father of the modern
conflict theory; he regards society as a dynamic
entity constantly undergoing change as a result
of competition over scarce resources.

created because of the conflicts between
differing interests. 
 The people are directly influenced by the social
structures which are formed and the usual
differentiation is because of the power struggle
between the “elite” and the “others”
