Background of the Subject
About the Subject:

• Communicative Competence & Afro-Asian Literature

English subject is often split into two main topics which, obviously, can help students to
improve their skills in English. These two topics are English Literature and English
Language. This year, Grade 8 English focuses on Afro-Asian literature and other text
types to foster deeper appreciation of Philippine literature and those of other countries.
After being exposed to this grade level, the students are expected to read and write well
and use the English Language to its greatest effect.
• Speech 8
This program exposes the students to different speech forms like speech choir,
storytelling, readers theater, jazz chants, etc. This will allow them to use the appropriate
prosodic features of speech in differing oral communication situations. Thus, making
them effective speakers of the English language.
The course provides the background and facts
necessary for a deeper understanding and
appreciation of Afro-Asian Literature, its
writers, history and dynamic development.

The course will provide the students

with a general overview of scientific
contents regarding basic
communication skills.
