As we are now facing the elevated heat index that started last March and is expected to end in
May, there are many sicknesses that we could acquire this summer and one of them is a heart
attack. As we look around our surroundings, this was one of the problems that we have identified
as worth solving. The risks and occurrences of heart attack among senior citizens, people with
heart ailments due to unhealthy lifestyle and obesity, and those who have histories of heart attack.
According to the study of Cleveland HeartLab (2019), researchers found that there are more
heat-related heart attacks that happened in more recent years of the study from 2001 to 2014.
They added that a very high heat temperature can lower blood pressure, causing a person’s heart
to beat faster and putting them at risk for a heart attack.
Senior citizens are at the most high risk of a heart attack because of their elderly age. Based on
the article entitled “Heart Health and Aging” from National Institute on Aging, people age 65 and
older are much more likely to suffer a heart attack, to have a stroke, or to develop coronary heart
disease or commonly known as heart disease, and lastly, heart failure.

Our target market will only focus on Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, and
Rizal or commonly known as CALABARZON since we were just starting our
business idea.
According to an online article, Statista, published by Martha Jean
Sanchez (2020), stated that Rizal held the highest number of heart disease
cases in the Philippines’ CALABARZON region in 2017, amounting
approximately 3.3 thousand. On the other hand, Tagaytay city had the lowest
cases of at most, 125 cases. CALABARZON’s heart disease cases since 2017 are
approximately 12,400. This is a great opportunity for us to start with our
business idea that aims to resolve this problem our customers are
facing, focusing with a smaller region.

Currently, they are managing this problem by eating healthy foods such as fruits and
vegetables, of course, doing exercises regularly, avoiding heavy activities that could
cause over fatigue, and regular consultation with a doctor. Some of the customers we
interviewed added that they are managing this problem by hiring a caretaker (whether
they are their relatives or professional caretaker) to look after, assist, and take care of them,
so that they may not be get too tired with their everyday house chores. There is one person
we have interviewed with a younger age, who stated that he is using a very cheap
Smartwatch that measures his heart rate and blood pressure so that he is aware of his
heart condition.
With these existing alternatives they are using to manage and cope up with the problem
they were facing, these could help us to come up with greater idea and solution that could
benefit them.

The Smart Band has an instructional interface that flashes all the health status of
the patient or user onto the screen, specifically concerning with their heart condition.
Furthermore, our product offers unique programs that every time the user
experiencing discomfort, or they have reached the blood pressure of 140/90 (or
reached the BP of 180+/120+) that indicates the risk of high blood pressure which may
also lead to heart attack, the Smart Band will do its job to help the user by contacting
or notifying their family members or loved ones, and nearby hospitals where they
registered the product, to declare an emergency and that they needed immediate
attention. Additionally, the patients or users will no longer need (still depends on their
health condition) to hire a caretaker to look after, assist, and take care of them, plus
their family members and loved ones will constantly know their health status with the
help of Smart Band without looking after them from time to time even they are at
work, as the said product is designed to notify or update persistently those who are in
the contacts, about the health status of the user specifically with their heart conditions.

Our proposed solution to the problem we have identified is called a “Smart Band”. It is a
high-tech Smartwatch designed for those people who are at risk of heart attack sickness. The
said product can detect the occurrences of heart attacks of those people who are wearing it. If
the product detects any discomfort from the user, or he or she surpassed the blood pressure of
140/90 (or reached the BP of 180+/120+) that indicates high blood pressure which might also
lead to heart attack, the Smart Band will do its job to help the user by contacting or notifying
their family members and loved ones, as well as nearby hospitals where they registered the
product, to declare an emergency and that they needed immediate attention. This is the main
feature of our product that our competitors don’t have.
The price we have fixed for our product is ₱3,000 (₱2,625 based on the computation). The
price is acquired by adding our total fixed cost and the total variable cost and dividing it by the
total units/products produced, which brings a total value of 3,000.
We plan to introduce the first iteration of our product to our customers. The first
iteration of our product that we will be going to introduce is just a simple smartwatch that
doesn’t include the main feature we aimed which is the heart attack detector. A simple
smartwatch that can only measure a heart rate and not letting you inform about your heart
condition. If the customers don’t satisfy or notice some missing features in our first
iteration, then we will be moving on to the second iteration which is a more progressed
smartwatch that can measure both the heart rate and blood pressure of the user, yet, it
does not flash the measures that the users needed to do regarding his/her current
condition and not being able to contact or notify the user’s family and loved ones about
his/her current condition. If our customer didn’t satisfy or notice some missing features in
the second iteration of our product, then we will be moving on to our final iteration which
is the “Smart Band”, which can detect both heart rate and blood pressure as well as the
ability to contact or notify the user’s family and loved ones and nearby hospitals where they
registered the product if detects discomforts that might need immediate action.

“Smart Band”
As a team, we decided to brand our product as “Smart Band”. The key stratagem, to
create and acquire better brand name is to understand the customer’s needs and
emotions. According to one of the customers we interviewed, she needs a kind of
device that can tell her all about her health condition particularly her heart condition
and what measures does she need to do based on her heart status. She also
mentioned that having this clever device will indeed aid those who have heart ailments
and will make their life easier. This is one of the features our product offers which
flashes to the screen all the information our user/s needs to know including their
health status especially their heart condition. This is an ample cause and motivation
that we decided as a team to name our brand as “Smart Band”.
