PAST CONTINUOUS

We use Past Continuous to say that


something was in progress at a
certain time in the past.
Example: At 11 o´clock Anton was playing golf
with his friends.
Simple past

The simple past refers


to a completed action
at one particular time
in the past.
e.g. Anton had a party last Sunday.
When / While/As

Time clauses in the past simple are often introduced by


when.
e.g. When I saw him, he was running in the park.
He was running in the park when I saw him.

Time clauses in the past continuous are often


introduced by while / as.
e.g. While/As I was doing my homework, father
arrived home.
Father arrived home while/as I was doing my
homework.
