 MACHINE SHOP 1
 
 

 Machine Shop has a vital role in maintainig the


plant equipment so far as it supplies bulk of spare
parts by the various units. It acquires an added
significance by virtue of the finishing line of
manufacturing activties of Engineering Shops.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
o Manufacturing of spares, changeables, tools,
tackles etc. required for maintenance and operation
of various departments.
o Reclamation of worn out spares.
o Manufacturing and modificaton of equipment /
spares for development work from the point of
view of import substitution, cost reduction etc.
SECTIONS:
 Machine shop is divided into following sections.
1. Machining Section:
 The machining section carries out the following
function:-
 1. manufacture of various spares of a wide variety,
out of forged, casting and fabricated blanks.
 2. finishing of reclaimed parts.
 3. modification of various spares by machining.
For performing the above, e machine
tools ranging from extra heavy duty to
light duty are used which are:
 A. lathes
 B. shapers
 C. planning m/cs
 D. slotter
 E. vertical boring m/cs
 F. pillar and radial drilling m/cs
 G. plano milling m/cs
2. Planning section :
 1. receipt, document and storage of work orders
received and master cards department wise.
 2. collection prepration of raw materials to m/cs
and transportation of finished products.
 3. advance prepration of co.ordination with tool
room.
Technology section:-
 The section is responsible for working out the
technological processing of jobs to manufactured.
The responsibilities of section are:
 1. prepration of master cards, dealing sequence of
of operations, types of m/cs tools to be employed,
sequence of machining of each machine, cutting
tools to be used.
Assembly section:-

 Planned manufacture of new assemblies i.e crane


wheels of various types and size for different
departments.
 Repairs/reconditioning of parts/equipment of
various departments during scheduled repairs
 Repairs of babbitt bearing for various shops
Tool room and heat treatment section

 The tool room is intended to


 Produce &recondition various metal cutting tools
&cutters
 Repair measuring instruments/ tools, hand-tools etc
 Manufacture jigs, fixtures, gauges, templates & special
cutters
 Manufacture machine tool accessories, and various
other tackles
 Manufacture precision components where high accuracy
is demanded
MAINTANANCE SECTION
 The upkeep maintenance of machine tools and all
other installation of machine shop -I are carried out
by the following responsibilities :-
1. Regular checkup of condition of machine tools.
2. Attending day-day minor breakdown.
3. Attending to major breakdown in such a way so
as to curtail down time of machine to minimum.
STORES SECTION
 Controlled by the in charge tool room. This section
insure the supply of tool items and consumable
required by machine tools.
 This section is also responsible for procurement of
all items especially required by machine shop-I.
