DESIGN
OBJECTIVE
Chooses appropriate quantitative
research design.
Research Design
Research design is the framework of
research methods and techniques chosen by
a researcher.
The design allows researchers to hone in on
research methods that are suitable for the
subject matter and set up their studies up
for success.
Experimental Research Design
Primarily concerned with cause and
effect relationship in studies that
involve manipulation or control of the
independent variables (causes) and
dependent variables (effects).
Experimental Research Design
Example:
This research study used
experimental method. The researcher
prepared two set up in conducting the
experiment if the effects of PW Oil to
the plant (One set up used PW Oil and
the other one uses common lamps used
at home)

Lamp Usage
Descriptive Research Design
This design is utilized for the purpose of
accurately portraying a population that has
been chosen because of some specific
characteristics.
Descriptive Research Design
It may be used to develop theories, identify
problems with a current practice, justify
current practices, aid in making professional
judgments, or determine what other
practitioners in similar situation are doing.
No manipulation of variables is involved in a
descriptive research design.
Descriptive Research Design
Example
The researchers used quantitative descriptive research
design. Descriptive research design is a valid method for
researching specific subjects and as a precursor to more
quantitative studies (Shuttleworth, n.d.).
This research design is appropriate for explaining the
phenomena trend that occur and it gives comparison by
means of demographic profile of the respondents. The
researchers are expecting that by the use of this research
design it will give the result of the attitude of the HUMSS
students towards public speaking.

Correlational Research Design
This design is used to investigate the direction
and magnitude of relationships among
variables in particular population.
It also studies the changes in one
characteristics or phenomenon which
correspond to the changes in another or with
one another.
Correlational Research Design
Example:
This study uses a correlational research
design to gather information of the students’
blended learning usage and their academic
performance. Specifically, it describes the
students’ demographic profile of Senior
High School Students GAS strand and their
assessment concerning their blended
learning usage and academic performance.
