MIVAN CONSTRUCTION

INTRODUCTION
 Mivan is a quality aluminum structure developed by a European construction company known as Mivan Company
Ltd. In 1990, the company from Malaysia began manufacturing these formwork systems.
 Mivan formwork is the advanced formwork system made of strong and sturdy aluminum components that has great
strength, durability, simple to install, adaptable and is used in the construction of residential units and mass housing
projects.
 This innovative form of work is actually suitable for constructing houses in large quantities at a faster speed.
 Mivan technology has been used widely in Europe, Asia, Gulf Countries, and other parts of the globe.
 It is suitable for constructing a large number of houses in a short period of time using room size forms to construct
walls and slabs in one constant pour on concrete.
 It is fast, simple, adaptable and cost-effective. It produces total quality work which requires minimum maintenance
and when durability is the prime consideration.
 This system is most suitable for Indian condition as a tailor-madealuminum formwork for cast-in-situ fully concrete
structure.
 Its use is being preferred in India to complete the most challenging government scheme – Housing for All by 2022.
MIVAN CONSTRUCTION IS SUITABLE WHEN,

 Mass housing
 Number of repetitions are more
 Typical floors
 Fast construction required
 High quality
 Column less structure
 Highly suitable to load bearing structure (shear
wall)
COMPONENTS OF MIVAN FORMWORK
 The basic element of the formwork is the panel, which is an extruded aluminum
rail section, welded to an aluminum sheet.
 This produces a lightweight panel with an excellent stiffness to weight ratio,
yielding minimum deflection under concrete loading.
 Panels are manufactured in the size and shape to suit the requirements of specific
projects.
 The panels are made from high strength aluminum alloy with a 4 mm thick skin
plate and 6mm thick ribbing behind to stiffen the panels.
 The panels are manufactured in MIVAN'S dedicated factories in Europe and
South East Asia. Once they are assembled they are subjected to a trial erection in
order to eliminate any dimensional or on site problems.
 All the formwork components are received at the site within three months after
they are ordered. Following are the components that are regularly used in the
construction

FORMWORK ASSEMBLY

 MIVAN aims in using modern construction techniques and

equipment in all its projects.
 On leaving the MIVAN factory all panels are clearly
labeled to ensure that they are easily identifiable on site
and can be smoothly fitted together using the formwork
modulation drawings.
 All formwork begins at a corner and proceeds from there.
 SIMPLICITY - PIN AND WEDGE SYSTEM :- The panels
are held in position by a simple pin and wedge system that
passes through holes in the outside rib of each panel. The
panels fit precisely, simply and securely and require no
bracing.
STEPS IN MIVAN CONSTRUCTION METHOD

1.ERECTING WALL USING REINFORCING STEEL WIRE RODS :-

 The basic framework of the structure is first erected using reinforcing
steel wire rod mess as per the existing practice.
 It is important to get the wire rod mesh in the proper position and keep
it in that location during pouring of concrete since it will be the
deciding factor for the performance of the structure.
 Reinforcements for the concrete are positioned according to placing
drawings.
 These reinforcing steel wire rods are fastened to other steel wire rod
members using tie wire to avoid dislodgment through the construction
stage and during pouring of concrete.
2. PLACEMENT OF ALUMINUM FORMWORK :-
 Thereafter the factory manufactured aluminum alloy, aluminum
formworks, are erected in situ at the site, placed on the outer side of this
reinforcing steel wire rod mesh.
 The Mivan Shuttering Aluminum formworks, which are prefabricated
as per the room dimensions, the wall as well as the floor slabs will have
to be now erected.
 These aluminum alloy slabs are made to precision and can be easily
handled.
 Provision for windows and doors to be fitted, staircases, ducts, façade
panels and chajjas are incorporated in these structures.
 The aluminum alloy Mivan shuttering formworks are fixed with one
another using the wedge and pin system to facilitate its speedy
dismantling on the concrete structure gaining half its strength.
3. CONCRETE POURING :-
 After the aluminum forms are placed as a cast, the pouring of
high-quality concrete follows.
 The concrete may be in the form of slurry and for megastructures
a concrete slurry pump may be used to pour it within the cast.
 Vibrators are also used during pouring of the concrete for
compaction, i.e to expel any air pockets within the concrete
structures.
 At least two operatives should be on standby during concreting
for checking pins, wedges and wall ties as the pour is in
progress.
 Special attention to be given while pouring concrete for
dislodging of pins/wedges, slipping of props or overspill of
concrete at openings.
4. DISMANTLING OF MIVAN SHUTTERING :-
 Mivan shuttering is dismantled after the requisite concrete curing
period, during which concrete gains enough strength.
 Normally all formwork can be struck after 12 hours of concreting.
 First, the wall formwork is strike down, followed by deck formwork.
 The removed formwork is cleaned with scrapers and wire brushes as
soon as they are struck.
 Once cleaned, it is transported and stacked properly for the next use.
 The Mivan shuttering aluminum forms can be used repeatedly for a
minimum of 250 times, thus minimizing wastage of cost and material
from one construction site to the other.
 The resultant structure is precise, with a near smooth finish, having
more durability and strength. It does not need plastering.
FEATURES OF MIVAN FORMWORK
1. Load Carrying Capacity
 The load-carrying capacity of Mivan formwork is 7-8 Tonnes per square meter.
 Mivan formwork is lightweight and weighs around 18-20 kg per meter square.

2. Striking Time
 The striking time of vertical (wall) formwork is 12 hours after concreting or when concrete strength has reached
2N/mm2 and horizontal (deck) formwork is 36 hours after concreting or when concrete strength has reached
10N/mm2.
3. Durability
 As the panels of Mivan formwork are made of structural grade aluminum alloy, they are very durable and sturdy.
 A single component can be repeated around 200 times.

4. Cycle Time
 High speed of construction can be achieved by this system that means faster completion of the project.
 Approximately, the times required to cast floor is 7 days with the use of Mivan formwork
MERITS OF THE MIVAN CONSTRUCTION

 Speed – Reduces the total turn around time by almost half when compared to conventional construction
techniques.
 Demands Less Labour – With a set procedure and checklists to follow, this technology minimizes the need for
skilled labour and also eliminates activities like masonry and rendering activities which are labour intensive.
 Seismic Resistant & Durable – The buildings are more seismic resistant and more durable.
 Less Maintenance – Primarily with no construction joints and with free flow concrete used, this technology
reduces the chances of seepage which further results in negligible maintenance.
 Smooth Finish – Mivan construction ensures uniformity, hence all walls and slabs have a smooth finish which
means additional plastering is not needed.
 Higher Carpet Area – it gives the scope to take out more carpet area in comparison to traditional construction
techniques.
 Earthquake Resistant – More earthquake resistant structure and safer in case of a strong earthquake. This is
because structures built using Mivan is a monolithic concrete structure which acts as a whole single strong unit
DEMERITS OF THE MIVAN CONSTRUCTION

 Expensive – Aluminium formworks are much expensive than the conventional formworks.
 Visible Finishing Lines – Because of small-sized components, the finished structure could have several finishing
lines visible on the concrete surfaces.
 Less Scope Of Alterations – Alterations or modifications are not possible as all the members are cast in RCC.
 Demands Uniform Planning – This technology is comparatively expensive, to be cost-effective uniform planning
as well as elevations are needed.
 Can Have Contraction Cracks – Shrinkage could result in cracks on walls and slabs. This can be prevented either
by reducing the heat hydration by using fly ash or by using control strips on the structure.
