• The Pakistan- India boundary continues irregularly south ward. There is a
road from Lahore goes to India via Wagah border which connects Lahore
with Amritsar in India. There is also one railway line from Hyderabad via
Mirpurkhas to Khokharapar and then to India at presently this is suspended.
The railway line which connects Lahore with Amritsar via Wagha border
and Attari in India. There is another road link which goes from Muree to
Muzafarabad in Azad Kashmir and then connects with Srinagar in occupied
Kashmir.

CHINA
• CHINA: the North is linked to China to a historical trade route previously
known as the Silk Route. After the construction of Karakoram Highway
trade relations between Pakistan and China were strengthened.

AFGHANISTAN
• Although there is not an adequate road linking Pakistan with the central
Asian Republic through Afghanistan though there are few historical passes
e.g. Khyber Pass, Khurram Pass, Khojak Pass. These are not developed
enough. The famous Grand Trunk Road runs from Lahore to Peshawar and
then onward to the Khyber and Afaghanistan. It was built by Shershah Suri
in the 16th century. There are two main entry points from Afghanistan,
Torkhum between Peshawar and Kabul and Chaman between Quetta and
Kandhar. Safed Koh Ranges and Waziristan hills from a barrier between
Pakistan and Afghanistan. Khyber pass connect Peshawar with Kabul in
Afghanistan.

• There are two entry points into Iran one of them is located at Koh-e-Tafan
through a road coming from Quetta via Nok Kandi and the other is at Mand
through a road coming from Turbat. There is also a railway line between
Pakistan and Iran which is running from Quetta via Dalbadin, Nokandi,
Koh-e- Tafan to Zahidan in Iran. To the south west a long route RCD
Highway goes to Iran and Turkey.

IMPORTANCE OF PAKISTAN’S

• Geographically Pakistan is located in South Asia (Pakistan, India,
Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka).

• The location of Pakistan on the world map is latitude 240N to 37oN and an
important line passing through south of Pakistan is Tropic of Cancer,
longitude 61oE to 76oE of Meridian.

• It is situated in the heart of Muslims Countries of the east and west. To the
west Pakistan is linked with Muslim countries like Afghanistan , Iran,
Middle East countries and north African Muslims countries close in the east
are Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei.

• Pakistan lies in the Sub Tropical climatic zone. Due to favorable climatic
conditions agriculture activities can be performed throughout the year.(Rabi
and Kharif crops)
• Warm water sea port is available.

• Pakistan ‘s coastline on the Arabian Sea is in a central position for trading


by sea both with the South Asia and the Far East and beyond and with the
Middle East to the west.

• Karachi sea port and Gwadar can serve land lock Central Asian countries.

• For the land route we are connected Afghanistan through Khyber pass
K.K.H with China, G.T Road with India Wagha Borders and RCD Highway
with Iran and Turkey. Pakistan is also connected to railway lines with India
and Iran.

• Easy access to Central Asian countries through Afghanistan Wahkhan


Corridors.
• The air route between west and east pass through Pakistan because of its
central position and the flights stopped here for stay over and refueling
especially on Quaid-e-Azam International Air Port Karachi.

• Pakistan is bounded by high snowcapped mountain in the North. The river


Indus and its tributaries cut across these ranges and carry enormous
quantity of water, for irrigation purpose and a Hydro Electric Power.

• Pakistan standard Time has the difference of +5 hours from GMT. It means
it get dark at about 5 p.m. in the winter and 7:30 p.m. in the summer
season.
