Basics of Ducting

 Duct types:
• Circular ducts  see Piping

• Rectangular ducts

• Flat oval ducts

Routing (modeling) Ducts

Route  to add ducting components into model (flanges, elbows,

transitions, etc.)
 Straight ducts can be cut
Seam points can be joint, ducts have to be parallel and the same size
Ducts can be trimmed, cut plane is defined
Replace angles (miters) with elbows or bends
 Insert flanges, ducting components
Insert duct part (damper, branch, etc.) into duct line
Attach duct part to („onto”) duct line
Delete flange set / ducting component

Routing (modeling) Ducts – Replace angles

 Select the miter connection point
Select elbow or bend from specification
 Change sizes – if required

Routing (modeling) Ducts – Insert Flange set

Select straight duct part to insert flange set
If You would like to insert a flange between a component and a straight part
– You have to select the straight duct
You can not insert flange set between components !
Auto Insert can be used to cut straight duct to maximum length pieces.
Length it defined in specification

Routing (modeling) Ducts – Insert part (into line)

 Select straight duct part
Select the part (“into” line component: branch, damper, etc.) from
specification
Change dimensions of part if required

Routing (modelling) Ducts – Attach part

Select straight duct part (cursor on face which need attachment)
Select the part (“attach” line component: boot, hatch, etc.) from
specification
Change dimensions of part if required

Modify Ducts

Move point, connected parts are adjusted

Component orientation can be changed (same as rotate ! )
 Duct line can be changed
Specification can be changed and fittings can be regenerated
Insulation can be added via specification
Size for single duct parts can be changed
• Connected part will not be changed! No dependencies like in piping!

About selection
There should be two different object “category” (because different object
types):
• Duct part – as “master” object ( Duct type )
• Flanges or frames – as dependent objects ( Beam type )

If You select a component (single select),

then dependent objects will be selected too.

If You select all of HVAC part (All of a Kind),

then only Duct parts will be selected only.
To select flanges and frames use
”Add Dependent Objects”
