People will always be allured by opportunities to know intricate details
about the lives of famous social figures. Within the text type of memoir,
engaging information about historically significant events and people is
recounted through the first person, subjective lens of the author.
Hemingway uses his 1964 text, A Moveable Feast, specifically the chapter
explicitly titled, “Scott Fitzgerald”, to share his first multi-dimensional
experience of his famous contemporary. Through the conventions of the
text type, modernist literary enthusiasts are presented with a
retrospective version of Fitzgerald’s physicality, and an adverse toned
impression of his personality and ‘way of being’. Inadvertently, through
this relaying of subjective information, the reader is also presented with,
and positioned in relation to, an image of the author himself, Hemingway.
Note: in terms of text type, the three key roadmapped units of meaning
could all be considered within the macro element of characterisation or
as this is a memoir represented historical figures or subjects.

following approach as a starting point for creating your essential pre-response plan/framework:

• Identify the key recurring themed noun groups or visual objects in the extract.
• Are you intentionally positioned positively or negatively in relation to these key units of
meaning/concepts? Is the agency given to these key units of meaning powerful or powerless?
