Reading

Scanning
• It is a useful tool for speeding
up your reading.
• Here, you look only for a
specific fact or piece of
information without reading
everything.
Activity
• Scan the paragraph below to answer these
questions:
1. When did Magellan come to the Philippines?
2. On what occasions did Filipinos dance and
sing?
3. What religious events did our ancestors
observe with ceremonial dances?
Skimming
• It refers to looking only for the general
and main ideas, works best with non
fiction material.
• Skimming takes place while reading
and allows you to look for details in
addition to the main ideas.
Activity
• Skim the paragraph below to answer that
follows.
1. Describe the traditional Filipino.
2. Why is there no physical contact on
traditional dancing?
3. What is the main idea of each
section?
Close Reading
• It is thoughtful, critical analysis of
a text that focuses of significant
details or patterns in order to
develop a deep, precise
understanding of the text form,
craft, meanings, etc.
