PHRASAL VERB TO YOUR DAILY LIFE

Phrasal verb :
Combine a base verb with another word, usually a
preposition or adverb – known as a particle – to create
a completely new verb meaning
WAKE UP

Example :
 Every morning I wake up at 7.30 a.m.
TO SLEEP IN

Means you sleep longer,


Normally I would wake up at 8 a.m. but if a nanny
comes in or if it’s Sunday, I sleep in ‘till 10.

Example :
 I like to sleep in on the weekends
TO GO OFF

We use the phrasal verb to talk about our alarm.

Example:
 My alarm did not go off this morning.
TO GET UP

Example :
 I wake up at 8 and only get up at 9.
TO PERK UP

You can use this phrasal verb to describe someone


who was in really in the mood before but then he did
something and he perk up.

Example :
 I’m not a morning person, I need some coffee every
morning to help me perk up.
TO WORK OUT

To do some physical exercise.

Example:
 Every morning I work out for ten minutes.
TO PICK OUT

Means to choose something in a group.

Example:
 Depending on the weather, I would pick out some
clothes that I’m going to wear today.
TO TAKE OFF

On the contrary when you take something off you take


it off.

Example:
 After a long workday, I take my heels off and I feel
amazing.
TO FRESHEN UP

Example :
 Would you like to freshen up before breakfast?

Means maybe take a quick shower, may just clean your face, maybe put some
make up, maybe change your clothes depends on what your understand by
freshen up.
Sometime you can say :
A: We having dinner at 6, it is 5 p.m. right now. Do you wanna take like half
an hour to freshen up?
B: Yes , that would be great. I will go take a 10 minute nap, take a shower and
change
TO GO OUT

When you live your house you can say

Example :
 I go out at 8.30 a.m
TO HEAD OUT

Another phrasal verb that you can use in this situation


(when you live your house)

Example :
 I normally head out at around 9 a.m. every morning.
So if you want to grab coffee together 9a.m. will be
great.
TO HEAD TO

Another phrasal verb that other American use is head to.

Example :
 I head to work at 9 a.m. every morning
TO DROP OFF

If you have kids you probably use drop off a lot.

Example :
 At 8.45 I drop off my kids at school.
That means you driving them to school, you dropping
them there, they stay at school and you go to work.
TO GO THROUGH

When you work you go through your email, means


you check them , you play with them.
TO FIGURE OUT

Figure out is another phrasal verb that we use a lot


when describing our daily life.

Example :
 I need to figure out whether this job is good for me.
 I need to figure out if I would be able to make it to
dinner at 6 p.m. because we have 8.5 p.m. meeting.
TO CAME UP WITH

You can came up with new plan


You can came up with new idea
That means you are creating it.

Example :
 We just came up with new plan.(let’s have dinner all
together)
TO WRAP UP

Means to finish.

Example :
 I wrap up at work at 6 p.m. every day.
(that means you finish everything at 6 p.m.)
TO MEET UP

To catch up
TO REFLECT ON

To consider something and think about something in


careful manner at the end of the day.

Example :
 You reflect on your day and write your thoughts in a
diary.
TO STAY UP

to go to the bed latter then usual.

Example :
 Yesterday I had to stay up ‘till 11 p.m. because I had
to finish this project and I’m really sleepy right now.
TO DOZE OFF

When you tired, when you working on a project, you


really want to go to sleep. You can doze off.

Example :
 I dozed off working on this project.
Means you felt sleep on dusk to doze off. This really
common phrasal verb.
