Parallel Structure?

Parallel structure (parallelism) adalah

pengulangan bentuk gramatikal tertentu dalam
suatu kalimat. Untuk membentuk Konstruksi
yang paralel, pola gramatikal yang digunakan
harus sama.
 CATATAN
1. Cari bagian kalimat yang dibuat paralel.
2. Pastikan cara paralel, apakah dibuat / diatur
dengan cara yang sama.
3. Jika belum paralel, koreksi dan samakan
konstruksi gramatikal per bagian.
 Contoh:
Tidak Paralel:
• Ellen likes hiking, the rodeo, and to take
afternoon naps.

Paralel:
• Ellen likes hiking, attending the rodeo, and
taking afternoon naps.
atau
• Ellen likes to hike, attend the rodeo, and take
afternoon naps.
 Dengan Coordinating Conjunctions

Ketika dua/lebih klausa/frasa dihubungkan dengan

coordinating conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet,
atau so), gunakan parallel structure.

Contoh:
Tidak Paralel:
• My best friend took me dancing and to a show.

Paralel:
• My best friend took me to a dance and a show.
 Dengan Correlative Conjunctions

Ketika dua klausa/frasa dihubungkan dengan correlative

conjunction (not only…but also, either…or, neither…nor, if…
then, dll.), gunakan parallel structure.

Contoh:
Tidak Paralel:
• My dog not only likes to play fetch, but also chase cars.
Paralel:
• My dog not only likes to play fetch, but he also likes to
chase cars.
Atau
• My dog likes not only to play fetch, but also to chase cars.
 Dengan Frasa atau Klausa Perbandingan

Ketika dua klausa/frasa dihubungkan dengan kata

pembanding seperti than atau as, gunakan parallel
structure.

Contoh:
Tidak Paralel:
• I would rather pay for my education than financial aid.
Paralel:
• I would rather pay for my education than receive
financial aid.
 Dengan Daftar (Lists)
Ketika sesuatu dibandingkan dalam daftar, gunakan parallel
structure.

Contoh:
Tidak Paralel:
• John Taylor Gatto criticizes public schools because they are
compulsory, funded by the government, and destroy students'
humanity.
Paralel:
• John Taylor Gatto criticizes public schools because they are
compulsory, government-funded, and normalizing.
atau
• John Taylor Gatto criticizes public schools because they require
students to attend, receive money from the government, and
destroy students' humanity.
