ICT Competency

Standards for
Philippine Pre-Service
Teacher Education
What is ICT?
 Information and Communication Technologies
(ICTs) is a broader term for Information
Technology(IT), which refers to all
communication technologies, including the
internet, wireless networks, cell phones,
computers, software , middleware, video-
conferencing, social networking, and other
media applications and services enabling users
to access, retrieve, store, transmit, and
manipulate information in a digital form.
 ICTs are also used to refer to the
convergence of media technology such as
audio-visual and telephone networks with
computer networks, by means of a unified
system of cabling (including signal
distribution and management) or link
system.
 ICT permeates all aspect of life, providing
newer, better, and quicker ways for people to
interact, network, seek help, gain access to
information, and learn.
What is ICT in Education?
 Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) in education is the mode of
education that use information and
communications technology to support, enhance,
and optimize the delivery of information.
 Worldwide research has shown that ICT
can lead to an improved student learning
and better teaching methods. A report made
by the National Institute of Multimedia
Education in Japan, proved that an increase
in the use of ICT in education with
integrating technology to the curriculum has
a significant and positive impact on students’
achievements.
Domain 1: Understanding
ICT in Education
1.1
Demonstrate awareness
and comply with ICT
policies as they effect
teaching-learning
environment.
Domain 2:
Curriculum and
Assessment
2.1
Produce digital learning
material designed to
enhance teaching-learning
Domain 3:
Pedagogy
3.1
Use varied teaching
strategies like project-
based learning that
integrated technology tools
to support thinking and
collaboration.
3.2
Use ICT knowledge and
apply relevant technology
tools for classroom activities.
Domain 4:
Technology tools
4.1
Make technology tools-
based instructional materials
to improve students learning.
Domain 5:
Organization and
Administration
5.1
Facilitate flexible learning
environment that enhances
collaboration with the use
of technology tools.
1)Flexible Physical Space – the new learning communities feature
additional flexibility, creating spaces for groups of different sizes. There
are small breakout rooms throughout the space so groups of students
can work collaboratively. Some examples of what might happen in the
smaller breakout spaces include activities like book partnership and
literate circles, math explorations, independent work or collaborative
work on a group presentation.
2)Flexible time- there is much more to a flexible learning environment that
the physical space. The flexibility extends to the use of time. All of our
middle school core teams currently have the ability to flex their schedules
and often do so. Every grade level has a block of time dedicated to our
core program: English, Math, Science Social Studies and P.E. for
example, they might revise the schedules, shorting classes to create a
block of time for a guest speaker or a home base activity.
3). Flexible Student grouping- students are grouped
together for a specific time at the beginning of the year, and
that grouping doesn’t change. This presumes that all
students are the same, and need the exact same learning
opportunities, at the exact same time. All student are unique,
and so this model has its limitations. Our teachers work
closely together to plan for instruction based on student
need.
Domain 6:

Explore existing and
emerging technology to
acquire additional content and
pedagogical knowledge.
Domain 7:
Teacher Disposition
7.1.
Demonstrate social, ethical
and legal responsibility in
the use of technology tools
and resources.
