I. Panimula

●Ang “Tata Selo” ay isang maikling kuwento na isinulat ni Rogelio


R. Sicat. Ang kuwentong ito ay nagwagi ng Ikalawang Gantimpala sa
Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature noong 1963.
●Ang pamagat ng kuwento ay ibinatay ng may akda sa pangunahing
tauhan ng istorya na isang lalaking magsasaka na nagngangalang Selo.
Bagama’t may pagkakaiba sa Tata Selo naipinakilala satin ni Rizal sa
ilang kabanata ng isa sa kanyang nobela, hindi maitatatangging maaring
inspirasyon ng may-akda ang naturang tauhan sa pagbuo ng “Tata Selo”.

●Si Rogelio R. Sikat (kilala rin bilang Rogelio Sícat) ay isang


Pilipinong piksyunista, mandudula, tagasalinwika, at tagapagturo. Siya ay
anak ipinanganak noong 26 Hunyo 1940 sa Alua, San Isidro, Nueva Ecija
, Pilipinas. Nagtapos si Rogelio Sikat na may Batsilyer ng Panitikan sa
Pamamahayag mula sa Pamantasan ng Santo Tomas at isang MA sa 
Filipino sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas.
●Si Rogelio Sikat ay nakatanggap ng maraming pampanitikang
premyo. Siya ay tanyag dahil sa "Moses, Moses", ang kanyang dula na
nagwagi ng gantimpalang Palanca noong 1962 sa Filipino (Tagalog).
Marami sa kanyang mga istorya ang unang lumabas sa Liwayway, isang
sikat na magasing pampanitikan na nasa wikang Tagalog
II. Buod
Ang akdang ‘Tata Selo’ ay nagsimula sa Istaked. Dito, pinagkaguluhan ng
mga tao si Tata Selo. Ang dahilan upang pagkaguluhan siya ay dahil pinatay niya
si Kabesang Tano na may-ari ng lupang kaniyang sinasakahan. Nataga ni Tata
Selo ang Kabesa dahil pinaaalis siya sa kanyang lupain ngunit tumanggi at
pinagpilitan ni Tata Selo na kaya pa niyang magsaka, ngunit dumating sa puntong
tinukod ito ng tinungkod ng Kabesa sa noo paliwanag niya sa binatang anak ng
pinakamayamang propitaryo, sa Alkalde at maging sa Hepe na nagmalupit sa
kanya sa loob ng istaked na pawang mga kilala ng Kabesa.
Isang araw, dumalaw si Saling, ang kanyang anak. Naninirahan si Saling dati
sa Kabesa at nanilbihan, subalit umuwi ito makalawang araw bago ang insindente
sa kadahilanang nagkasakit ito. Nakahabag si Tata Selo nang inisip niyang
pauwiin si Saling dahil wala na siyang magagawa. Pinatawag ng Alkalde si Saling
sa kaniyang tanggapan at pinuntahan niya iyon at hindi nakinig sa ama nito.
Kinabukasan dumalaw ang isang bata kay Tata Selo at sinabing nakina Alkalde si
Saling. Inutosan niya ang bata na sundoin si Saling at umuwi na. Hapon nang
bumalik ang bata at sinabing hindi ito papasokin sa tanggapan ng Alkalde. Hindi ito
inalintana ni Tata Selo at sinabi nalang nito na “inagaw sa kanya ang lahat”.
II. Pagtalakay
A. TEORYANG SOSYOLOHIKAL

●“Ako po’y hindi ninyo nauunawaan,” nakatingala at nagpipilit ngumiting wika
niya sa binatang nagtapon ng sigarilyo at mariing tinapakan pagkatapos. “alam
po ba ninyong dating amin ang lupang iyon? Naisangla lamang po nang
magkasakit ang aking asawa, naembargo lamang po ng Kabesa. Pangarap ko
pong bawiin ang lupang iyon kaya nga po ako hindi nagbibigay ng kahit isang
pinangko kung anihan. Kung hindi ko na naman po mababawi, masasaka man
lamang po.nakikiusap po ako sa Kabesa kangina. ‘kung maaari po sana,
‘Besa’’, wika ko po, ‘kung maaari po sana, huwag naman po ninyo akong
paalisin. Kaya ko pa pong magsaka, ‘Besa. Totoo pong ako’y matanda na,
ngunit ako pa nama’y malakas pa.’ Ngunit…Ay! Tinungkod po niya ako nang
tinungkod, Tingnan po n’yong putok sa aking noo, tingnan po ‘nyo.”
B. Teoryang Realismo
●“Pa’no nga ba’ng nangyari?” kunot at galit na tanong ng alkalde. Matagal
bago nakasagot si Tata Selo.
“Binawi po niya ang aking saka, Presidente,” wika ni Tata Selo. “Ayaw ko
pong umalis doon. Dati pong amin ang lupang iyon, amin, po, Naisangla
lamang po at naembargo—“
“Alam ko na iyan,” kumukupas at umiiling na putol ng nabubugnot na
alkalde.

“Napatay mo pala ang kabesa,” anang malaking lalaking hepe. Lumapit ito
kay Tata Selo na nakayuko at di pa natitinag sa upuan.

“Binabawi po niya ang aking saka.” Katwiran ni Tata Selo. Sinapo ng hepe
si Tata Selo. Sa lapag halos mangudngod si Tata Selo.

“Tinungkod po niya ako ng tinungkod,” nakatingala, umiiyak at kumikinig


ang labing katwiran ni Tata Selo.

Itinayo ng hepe si Tata Selo. Kinadyot ng hepe si Tata Selo sa sikmura.


Sa sahig napaluhod si Tata Selo, nakakapit sa uniporme ng Hepe.
