• There are many causes of the
degrading or aging of industrial
oil.
- mostly it ages because it oxidizes,
forming oxidation compounds and aging
products.

 1. Water

» One of the most frequently

encountered contaminant in oil is
water. Water is detrimental to the
life and performance of the oil.
- Water is the first factor for the oil
oxidation.

 What water does…

» If water content increases double–

it doubles the oxidation.
» In extreme cases, transformers can
fail with excessive water
contamination, as it affects both
the solid and liquid insulation.

 2. Hard Particles in Oil

» Hard particles in oil forms sludge in the

metal, stopping heat transfer into the
atmosphere.
» Sludge also precipitates into the pores of
solid insulation again stopping heat
transfer and causing partial discharges in
oil with possible future breakdowns of
transformers.

 Oil degradation

» The particles and water contaminations

generate continuously causing the oil
to change color from light clear whitish-
yellow to dark clouded brown almost
black.

 CMM Vacuum Oil Filter Machine
Operation

» The oil is drawn from the lowest port of the oil

tank and enters the machine, into the first
filter housing that retains all the
contaminants.
» The clean oil is heated and enters the vacuum
column filled with Raschig rings to create a
larger area for oil to spread to achieve space
separation of water vapor and gases.
» The CMM vacuum oil filter machines operate
in an automatic control mode with a remote
monitoring via a smart phone or a PC. 
Raschig rings are pieces of tube, approximately equal in length and diameter.

UVM Vacuum Oil Filter Machine

• The process of removing moisture and gas out of insulating oil

can be improved through a double stage vacuum chamber that
produces a deeper vacuum which pulls down faster providing
lower gas content, enhancing the dehydration and degassing
even more.
•The UVM vacuum filter machines are multi functional having
different modes of operation:
- Oil heating and filtration
- Oil heating, filtration, vacuum degassing/dehydration
- Transformer vacuum degassing/dehydration
