INTERFACE
CONTENT

Duolingo combines gamification with learning science to keep the learners motivated while studying a new

language.

Duolingo offers courses in 38 different languages

Duolingo uses AI to adapt the difficulty level of the learners’ lessons based on their progress, so that the

learners are seeing exercises at the right level for them.

CONTENT

Duolingo uses interactive exercises to get the learners speaking, reading, writing, and listening right from the

start. The learners will work through more challenging exercises and will do even more speaking and writing

in the target language as they ‘level up’.

CONTENT

SKILLS

Duolingo’s courses are made up of skills. Skills are

colorful circles representing each unit in the course.

Skills cover a particular topic, like Travel,

Restaurant, or Family, and teach vocabulary and

grammar related to talking regarding that topic.

CONTENT

LEVELS

Each skill has six levels, and each level gets the

learners practicing the skill's vocabulary and

grammar with more challenging exercises. The skill

color and the number in the little crown change when

the learners ‘level up’.

CONTENT

LESSONS

Each level has some lessons which cover vocabulary

and grammar related to the topic and each lesson

introduces new content. In order to unlock the next

skills, it is necessary for the learners to complete the

first level.
CONTENT

TIPS

The learners can find more information about

vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation in Tips. In

Tips, there are short explanations helping the

learners to focus their attention on the most

important parts of their lesson.

CONTENT

STORIES

Stories are short and fun dialogues that get the

learners reading and listening to conversational

language right for their level. Stories help the

learners picking up words and phrases without

making them feel like they are studying.

CONTENT

PODCAST

Duolingo Podcast tells the learners fascinating

stories from around the world, in the language they

are studying. The episodes help the learners

understand the language with brief explanations from

the narrator.
