interact with others in

things to society:
 Stability
 change

 Exchange
 Whenever people
interact in an effort to
receive a reward or a
return for the actions.

 Buying girlfriend flowers

 Listening to your parents

 Holding doors for old


people.

 Reciprocity
 The idea that if you do
something for someone,
they owe you something
in exchange.

 Basis for exchange

 Exchange theory
 The idea that people are
motivated by self interest
in their interactions with
other people.

 I.E. People do things


strictly to be rewarded.
 Extra credit
 Wash the car
 Buy flowers for girlfriend

 Occurs when two or more
people or groups oppose
each other to achieve a
goal that only one can
attain.

 Conflict
 The deliberate attempt to
 Control a person by
force
 Oppose someone
 To harm another person

conduct

 Accommodation
 A state of balance between cooperation and
conflict.

 Can take a number of forms


 Compromise
 Occurs when 2 parties both give up something to come to
an agreement.
 Truce
 Occurs when 2 parties both agree to bring a conflict to a
halt with no declared winner.

 Occurs when two or more
people or groups work
together to achieve a
goal
 Benefits more than one
person!

 Break into 3 groups.


 Each group must perform a skit in which each
one of the forms of social interaction take
place:
 Exchange
 Competition
 Conflict
 Accommodation
 Cooperation
