Description of the song:

Fiesta celebration is one of the most colorful and joyful
traditions that the Filipinos are proud of. This celebration is most
famous in barangays and even in far-flung sitios. Aside from
sumptuous food served to visitors, merry making like songs and
dances can’t be absent.

The song “AKO AN BATA” originated from Barangay

Union, a former barangay of Cantilan, Surigao del Sur , but now
belonging to Madrid, Surigao del Sur. This song was one of the
highlights of the fiesta celebration in Union.
Examples of Localization
During summer vacation, especially in the month of May, the
children from the poblacion would go to the farm in Union to be with
their grandparents. The populace who were devoted Catholics held yearly
fiesta celebration in honor of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of
farmers, every May 16. This was the time when selected children were
trained by the elders as performers. They performed this in the front yard
of every house. The performers had abanikos (fans) while they sang and
danced. The song was accompanied by the guitar.
The children were very much delighted when the owner of the
house would hand in some coins as “pahalipay” (gift).
The elders would advise the performers to save the coins to buy
paper and pencil for their use when classes in June opened.
The lyrics of the song depict the values of immense love of
children to their parents as manifested in their obedience and respect
towards their parents. Parents also manifest closeness, care and concern
to their children.
