1st Meeting
Management is the act of getting people together to accomplish
desired goals and objectives using available resources efficiently
and effectively.

Since organizations can be viewed as systems, management can

also be defined as human action, including design, to facilitate
the production of useful outcomes from a system.

This view opens the opportunity to manage oneself, a pre-

requisite to attempting to manage others.

Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to complain about the photographs taken by your company at our wedding in May. My wife and very
unhappy with the 5 photographs we were sent. On the day of the wedding, the photographs, Mr. Adams, told us that
his usual camera had been damaged, and that they had borrowed another camera for the day. He said it was the first
time he had used it. We believe that, as a result, the photographs that he produced are of very poor quality. A couple
of them are acceptable, but the photographs that were taken outside are very bright, and the ones taken inside are
dark and unclear.

Fortunately, we have enough from our friends and families to make sure we remember our special day. However,
because of these problems we do not feel we should pay for the photographs, and we would like a full and immediate
refund.

Yours faithfully,
Ronal Wharton

Skill 5: Use the Test Tactic to Answer the
Connecting Information Question

Which plan is Mr. Butler considering?

A. Selling on the internet
B. Getting bands to play in the store
C. Opening a coffee bar
D. Increasing advertising
 EIC, p 100
First Text
Dear Mr. Butler:
I’ve had a few ideas about how we can increase sales. First, i think we could
have more advertising around town, such as in the bus and train stations, and in
shopping malls, in order to reach more customers. In addition, we have some
extra space in the back of the store that we could turn into a coffee bar, where
people can relax and listen to music. If they hear something they like, they are
more likely to want to buy it before they leave.

Finally, there are a lot of great musicians in the region. I’ve spoken to local
bands about the possibility of doing some live shows in the store, and they seem
very interested. I think this could bring in a lot of people and increase sales.
I’d be happy to discuss these ideas with you in more detail

Shaun Evans
Baltimore Branch Manger
Second Text
Dear Shaun
Thanks for your ideas on how to increase sales. We have lost a lot of
business due to people downloading music from the internet, so we
always welcome ideas to get new customers.
Your first two ideas are good, but I’m afraid we don’t have the
budget to do them at the moment. However, your last idea is
something we can think about. In fact, our president, Mr. Rawlins,
has suggested using local musicians in exactly the same way.
I’ll be in Baltimore next week, so let’s talk about it then.

Tom Butler
Regional Manager
Which plan is Mr. Butler considering?

A. Selling on the internet
B. Getting bands to play in the store
C. Opening a coffee bar
D. Increasing advertising
Skill 6: Answering NOT Questions
NOT questions can take longer to answer than other types
of questions in Part 7 of the reading test because you
have to check all the answer choices carefully and
decide which one is not correct. All the other answer
choices will be correct.

Example:
 What is NOT mentioned in advertisement?
 Which of the following is NOT true about the hotel?

Underline the content words in the questions and answer choices.

Then read the text , and answer the questions. Compare your answers

DESIGNING A SPEECH CONCEPT

https://business.tutsplus.com/tutorials/write-a-speech-for-public-
speaking--cms-30832
An informative speech is
one in which the speaker relays knowledge to an audience
on a specific topic.

There are four distinct types of informative speeches:

speeches about objects, speeches about processes,
speeches about events, and speeches about concepts.
Concepts refer to ideas, beliefs, theories, attitudes, and/or
principles. When speaking about
concepts, you may have to find concrete ideas
in order to make abstract ideas more relatable and
tangible to your audience.

Whether discussing the theory of the origins of the universe to,

whether there's any truth to the phrase "love at first sight,"
concept speeches break down complex ideas into
manageable chunks of understanding
for your audience.
How to Write Your Speech

1. Begin with an outline. To create a speech your

audience will remember, you've got to be organized.
2. Use a conversational tone.
3. Write your speech the way you would normally talk. ...
4. Use the speaker notes. Typically, speaker notes are
not seen by the audience. ...
5. Be specific. ...
6. Use short sentences.

TOPIC 3: PATTERNS OF SUSTAINABLE SPECIALIZATION
AND TRADE PSST (By Arnold King)

This essay offers an alternative way to look at macroeconomics.

The current standard approach uses aggregate supply and aggregate demand (AS-AD).
I call the alternative approach patterns of sustainable specialization and trade (PSST).
The PSST approach combines many old and new strands in economics.
It suggests that the economy is a highly complex system that is constantly adapting to new circumstances,
especially opportunities created by technological innovation.
We can view employment fluctuations as a reflection of the difficulty that markets sometimes have in making
the necessary adjustments, so that for a period of time some workers have extremely low marginal revenue
product and as a result become unemployed.

TOPIC 4: FACTORS OF PRODUCTION
Factors of production is an economic concept that refers to the inputs
needed to produce goods and services.

The factors are land, labor, capital, and entrepreneurship.

The four factors consist of resources required to create a good or service,
which is measured by a country’s gross domestic product (GDP)

CROSS CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING

https://spada.uns.ac.id/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=10349
The Benefices of CCU
Cross-Cultural Understanding helps us to know other people's perception from
another part of the world. We can know about other people's feelings from another
region in the world, from another country which full of different cultures. It helps us
to make a good relationship or connection to others although we are live from a
different place with a different culture, beliefs and religions. Cross-Cultural
Understanding act as a guide in our way of communicating with other people. The
point of language teaching is to be able to communicate with others, and by
communicating it’s not only
about grammar or pronunciation.
Manners in this case also matter, so Cross-Cultural Understanding will
be beneficial to be taught to our students. So they will be able to
communicate with good manners. As the benefits for the teacher, by
studying Cross-Cultural Understanding, it can help us to understand our
students better. Because maybe someday we will have the chance to teach
abroad or we will have students from another country.

If it is not from other countries it is also not a problem, because in

Indonesia there are many different cultures, so learning about Cross
Technical Understanding will be important for teachers.
The other benefit is we can increase our respect awareness to others. This cross-
cultural understanding also enriches our culture. We can share with others and we can
get new things that we have not ever heard before. Sometimes we know that try to
communicate with other people with
a lot of differences with us is difficult.

So sometimes we need to understand them to understand their perception and

understanding how they think because their sunglasses is not the same as ours. It will
be great if we can look with each other with different sunglasses and It will be amazing
if we can see how people see the world.
