Biological Factors

Genetics

Genetic factors have been suggested as
the causes of nearly every type of
disorder. Genetics are known to be
involved in causing schizophrenia, but
little is known about how the gene system
that causes the disorder works. The fact
that a disorder has a genetic cause does
not mean that the disorder is untreatable.
Biological Factors

Brain Damage & Dysfunction

Brain damage or dysfunction has
been suggested as a cause of nearly
every type of emotional or
behavioral disorder. Traumatic
brain injury involves known
damage to the brain and may cause
a wide variety of emotional and
behavioral problems.
Family Factors

Parental behavior is significant in
affecting children’s school performance
and conduct.
Parental discipline is a significant factor
in behavioral development.
 Discipline that is authoritative—
characterized by high levels of
responsiveness and demandingness.
 Usually produces the best outcomes.
School Factors

In our society school failure is tantamount
to personal failure. The school
environment is not only critically important
for social development but is also the factor
over which educators have direct control.
Cultural Factors

The mass media
Peer groups

4.SOCIALIZED DELINQUENTS

who display behavior such as group

loyalty to a delinquent peer, group
tenancy and failure to abide by
middle class school ethics.

EDUCATIONAL
PROGRAMS FOR
CHILDREN WITH
BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS
1. Center-based programs
Putting up a home where
stranded and homeless children
can find help.
It is best for disadvantaged
children.
2. Street-based programs
These programs reach out to
children in their place of work.
Street educators conduct informal
dialogues with the children to
know and understand them.
3.Community-based programs
Preventive in approach, the type of
activity offers an alternative to
institutionalization of street children. It
aims to enhance the capacities of
families and communities so they can
take care of their children.
4.School-based programs
a.Regular Classroom Program
(mild behavior)
Preferred placement for all
handicapped students, including
behaviorally disordered students, for
many reasons.
b. Special Classroom Program
(moderate behavior)
Under this program, only one type of
exceptionality is being enrolled-
children whose needs are not met
because of their severe behavioral
problems.
c. Residential School Rehabilitation
Center (severe behavior)
For children whose needs are not met
in their home, community and those
who require around-the-clock
education, management and
supervision.
d. Resource Room Program
(moderate/mild behavior)
Children with BP are placed in
resource room to improve their
academic and behavioral functioning
while maintaining them in regular
classrooms.
e. Crisis Teacher
(mild/moderate behavior)
They help disturbed children over a
period of specific crisis or tension in the
regular classroom. This approach is for
the child to work on an individual basis
with the teacher.
f. Mental Health Crisis
(severe behavior)
Such a clinic can provide:
a.Consultative services to regular and special
class teachers
b.Itinerant personnel of the school to assist
regular and special class teachers
c.Resource room in the clinic where the child
