INTRODUCTION

solar energy.
Recycling of waste plastic
DEFINING PROBLEM
 Waste of renewable source of energy

 Plastic waste

 Cost

 Pollution
OBJECTIVE
 Making use of waste plastic bottles

 Eco friendly boat

 Cost minimisation.
METHODOLOGY

Design and calculation

Testing
THEORETICAL CALCULATION

Fb = DVrg N

DV=0.02 cu.meter
r=1000 Kg/cu.meter
g= 9.81 m/s2

Fb=19.67 Newton
PRACTICAL TESTING
CENTROID OF THE BOAT

8 Feet 2 Feet

5 Feet Centroid

4.07 Feet

Centroid = X1 A1 + X2A2
A1 + A2
MATERIALS

Some of the important materials required

BOTTLE SPECIFICATION
Number of bottles used = 266

Material = Polyethylene Terephthalate

Height of the bottle = 36 cm

Maximum diameter of bottle = 0.9 cm

Weight of bottle = 0.06g

Volume of the bottle = 2ltrs

ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS

Motor and Battery

Motor power–500Watts

Motor type – permanent magnet

DC motor

Motor weight – 9kg

Battery voltage – 12v/ 24v

Battery type – dry battery

Battery weight – 18kg

SOLAR PANEL

Voltage – 18v

Maximum power – 20W

Area – 0.2 sq.mt

FABRICATION
Welding process
PAINTING PROCESS
ARRANGEMENT OF PLASTIC BOTTLES
CAPACITY OF BOAT
 Bottles used – 266 bottles

 Boat capacity – 266kg(Considering 1Kg/bottle)

 Self weight – 71kg

ADVANTAGES
 Solar power helps in reducing global warming

 No moving parts

 Pollution free

 Cost minimization
DISADVANTAGES
 High initial investment for solar panels.

 Can be used only during sunny days.

FOR FUTURE IMPLEMENTATION
 No. of panels used = 1(20 Watt)

 With 50% charging and using a battery, the total

panel required is 7,the cost will be about
Rs.10500

 Without battery and using only solar panels, the

total panel required is 12 and the cost will be
about Rs.24500
CALCULATIONS

1000 W/m2 x 0.2 x A = 500W

A = 2.5m2
Where, Area of each solar panel = 0.2 m2
Capacity of motor = 500W
For the required area number of panels required is
13. Without the use of battery
FUTURE WORK
 Different shapes and sizes of boat can be
constructed
 Different materials for structure can be used
 Different types of arrangement of plastic bottles
 Pedal mechanism can be implemented
