part 5
How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
Representation of Megan!
Our main character ‘Megan’ looks very casual yet very pretty in this shot,
and she has a very good dress sense. We did this to connote that even
though she is now classed as middle class she still presents herself in a nice
upper class manner.

Here I purposely decided to use a close up to

get the intensity of ‘Megan's’ emotions across
In the background we see how well

class Megan is from. This is shown as
it is nicely decorated and looks nice
and modern.

This close up shot connotes how upset ‘Megan’ is, it also shows how she is not
coping with the loss of her father. This is very relatable to those teenagers who have
been through similar experiences and really shows a lot of British Social Realism as
many people loose loved ones.

This point of view shot from Megan gives us the

audience more of an insight to how Megan see’s
the world. This then gives the audience and the
character a better connection as we see things
how Megan does.
Mise-en-scene!
Real locations were used for every single shot
produced. This was to give our opening
sequence verisimilitude making it more
naturalistic, also making it stick to the theme
of British Social Realism.

Natural light was used here to give our

piece a better feel of British Social
Realism.

Here we used artificial light in order to show the time of day. It also tells the
audience how long she has been out for as the first time she was sitting in her
room it was morning as we could tell by having her curtains open. We added
the lamp to give the shot a dull effect/atmosphere to represent Megan’s state
of mind at this particular point as she wasn’t very happy.
Sound, Editing and Camera. (Angles, shot movement and positions)

The Music used in my opening sequence is played The Music is very rock and ‘grungy’. This
throughout, however we have adjusted the volume represents Megan’s change in life style as we
in some areas in order to hear particular parts of see her go a bit crazy after her dad died.
dialogue.

This angle shows Megan’s weakness, and her at her

lowest point as we can tell she seriously cannot cope
with the loss of her father. She has no power at this
point.

However from this angle Megan’s sister has

all the power and is very much in control.
This is because she too is very disappointed
with Megan, and she is not drunk like
Megan.

This point of view shot shows Megan’s state of mind to those watching.
It clearly connotes that Megan is extremely drunk as she has a blurred
vision. This represents how she copes with things. Typical of some
teenagers.
Also in this shot we have a Foley sound which we added in the editing stages. This was
because we wanted to make it look like Megan was really struggling on her way home. And so
we had noises of keys rattling and banging of keys against a door. It was also a good incentive
for her sister to go see what was going on.
Stereotypes!
These three shots are all part of the
build up as to when she goes and takes
the vodka bottle. Shot 1 shows her
opening the cupboard. This tells the
audience she is looking for something.
Shot 2 connotes to the audience that
she is considering taking it as we can
see from her facial expressions. Shot 3
tells the audience that she is going to
take it however she has a look of
severe doubt on her face as she fears
2 something bad will come of it.

This mid-shot is very

stereotypical of young
3 teenagers now days ‘drinking
in the park’.

We wanted Megan to come across stereotypically as

a ‘daddy’s girl’. We showed this by having her get
extremely upset when she came home drunk and her However the ‘daddy’s girl’ was

Typography!
The first shot of Megan closing the cupboard
door was a perfect opportunity for us to add a
typography, as it went to black out. We thought
it would be a good idea to have ‘Starring…’
there as it was the best point in the opening
sequence to introduce the main character as she
was about to get into real trouble as she took the
vodka bottle.

This typography was added hear because as Megan stepped out the
door we told her to look out, this was to try and get the audience
involved a but more as at this point they would all be thinking…Where
is she going? Also the typography before said starring and so this was
the best place to put the main characters name.

This was added hear as the shot before Megan had fallen on the floor
whilst being drunk at the park. And so it was a good point adding the
title of the film here.
