Electrostatic Voltage Measurement Tool

This document describes an electrostatic instrument that is used to measure medium and high voltages. It uses a capacitor potential divider to reduce the measured voltage to a lower value. The instrument works by measuring the torque produced by the electrostatic attraction between vanes and a quadrant, which is controlled by a spring. Air friction damping is also used.

Electrostatic

instrument
The instrument is generally used
for measuring medium and high
voltage.
The voltage is reduced to low
value by using capacitor potential
divider.
The force of attraction is
proportional to the square of the
voltage.
The force of attraction between
the vanes  and quadrant produces
a deflecting torque.
Controlling torque is produced by
spring control.

Air friction damping is used.
