This study characterized tuberculosis (TB) patients in Puskesmas Seberang Ulu 1 in Palembang, Indonesia. The study found that most TB patients were of productive age (12-35 years) or adult age (49-61 years), male, with elementary education, working as laborers, and low socioeconomic status. Many patients were active smokers, had comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension, anemia or malnutrition. Around half had a family history of TB. The study aims to help improve TB treatment success rates and case finding in high-risk groups.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the biggest threats in the world and is one of the top 10 causes of death worldwide. In 2014 TB killed 1.5 million people with more than 95% occurred in low- and middle-income countries. From 60% of TB patients, Indonesia is one of the largest TB contributor after India. Indonesia's CDR achievement in 2009 reached 90%.
